"As food technologists, we don't display drama, despite what others may think. Unfortunately, some individuals underestimate our expertise. If I were a company director, I'd prioritize hiring individuals with both extensive experience and education. Why do companies face customer complaints? It's often due to poor management and lack of expertise. Consider this: quality supersedes quantity. No matter the production volume, if quality is compromised, customers will reject it. Conversely, exceptional quality draws customers. To ensure quality, every food company should hire a dedicated Food Quality Officer. This expert should prioritize quality over quantity.

Wrong actions at work lead to poor performance. Happy New Week! After completing university, I had the opportunity to undertake my National Service at a food processing company. I was very excited and eager to start working soon to appreciate more of the practical aspects of the theoretical knowledge I had gained from studying Food Science and Technology. To cut a long story short, I started working and was given the role of a QA supervisor. Wow! It was no small QA supervisory role! 😂 When I began my supervisory role, it was not easy. Because I was a fresh graduate and inexperienced, the facility staff did not have much respect for me. As a result, when I gave them instructions, they often did not attend to them properly, and some even disregarded my instructions altogether. That was frustrating! Later, when my supervisor came around to check and verify, she would find that cleaning activities and other tasks the facility staff were supposed to do were not completed properly, which meant I had not supervised effectively, right? Hmmm... After noticing this, my supervisor advised and trained me to adopt the right attitude during supervision: being strict, decisive, confident, and communicating effectively with the team. I started implementing these strategies, and supervision began to improve significantly. All activities, including cleaning tasks, were completed well and up to standard. I also came to accept that safety, quality, and meeting standards in the food industry cannot be compromised. Tips for QA Department Employees in the Food Industry: 🟩Participate in the shop floor and collaborate with the production staff. Rather than focusing on the difficulties, work with the operators and try to understand their working issues ✅ Strive to offer answers rather than just drawing attention to the problems. ✅ Occasionally, you should collaborate with them as operators to comprehend the problems, as only you can offer answers. ✅ If necessary, stay by their side until the problems are fixed ✅ It is not necessary for us to do everything for them and their jobs just because we collaborate with them. No, it's simply making their work easier ✅ If you adhere to these, your production crew will represent you well and promote goodwill among others. #Foodtechnology #Foodandbeverage #Workculture #QA #Production #fmcg

This workshop, held on July 9, 2024, provided a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in the field of quality and food safety. The workshop covered a range of valuable topics, including: ✅ Job Opportunities in Quality and Food Safety: We explored various career opportunities available in this field. ✅ Preparing for the Field as a Student: Tips and strategies for students to prepare themselves for a career in quality and food safety. ✅ Professional CV Development: We started working on our CVs during the workshop, receiving guidance on how to create a professional and impactful resume. ✅ Real-World Catering Experience: Through videos and practical experiences, we gained insights into the real-world catering industry. ✅ Factory Tour: Understanding the importance of factory operations in quality control, we were taken on virtual tours of factories, which constitute a significant part of our future roles. ✅ Role of a Quality Control Inspector: We learned about the critical role a quality control inspector plays in ensuring 100% product safety. ✅ Quality Pyramid and Career Path: Insights into the quality pyramid and the proper career progression in this field. ✅ Discussion and Q&A Session: The day concluded with an interactive discussion, where all our questions and queries were addressed. This workshop has greatly enhanced my understanding of the quality and food safety sector and equipped me with the tools and knowledge to excel in this field.
