Quest (Nasdaq:QRHC) is a key enabler converting food waste into compost to be used for other purposes (like growing more food) rather than contributing to the landfill. Food waste is the number 1 contributor to methane gas emissions in landfills.
Join us for our #EarthMonthCelebration 🌎 on Saturday, Apr. 6 in Topeka, KS, with our friends at Dillons and Missouri Organic Recycling! Quest is excited to give away FREE #compost made from excess #FoodWaste from Dillons’ stores to the public.
We invite you to bring your buckets, bags, and shovels to Dillons at 800 NW 25th at 10AM. We will also be giving out special bags while supplies last.
Take a look at last year's highlights and get ready for another amazing year! ♻️
Join us behind the scenes of Dr. Bronner's as we dive through our dumpsters! ✨
Our goal? To become a zero-waste company — which technically means that less than 10% of our waste will ever reach a landfill.
To track our progress each year, a dedicated team of employee volunteers (called Dumpster Divers) arrive between 5-6am, and spend all day sorting, weighing, analyzing & recording every last scrap of trash, recycling & stinky compost. Talk about commitment. 🤯
We then use this data to determine how close we are to our zero-waste goal, and where we need to be doing better.
For example, we serve free, daily organic vegan meals to all staff — and just switched from single-use compostable plates & cutlery to reusable, washable ones instead! 🍽️
In the spirit of transparency, we also share this data publicly in our annual All-One Report — which we're working on right now. Stay posted for the results!
Lastly, BIG shout-out to the 30+ Dr. Bronner's employees who made our 9th annual Dumpster Dive happen this year. You are our sustainability superheroes!

We had compostable seals on our 1L bottles since day dot of launching them - so you can just pop them in the food bin, and know they're not contributing to the 8 MILLION tonnes of plastic waste per year.
Thing is, they needed high heat to apply in our bottling room - with high energy needs; then at the end of the day they could take months to compost if they weren't handled correctly.
Our new seals are different - a cutting edge technology that means they 'self-seal' and don't need lots of energy to fit and even better, they begin decomposing up to 50% faster than the old seals. Also, because they're now branded, we don't need to have our glass bottles printed on machines needing massive amounts of energy - another HUGE energy and carbon cost removed; and a win for more glass bottles being reused again, and again, and again, and again, and again.
SEAL OF APPROVAL! 💚🥛
You loved our compostable seals on our semi-skimmed milk, so we’re moo-ving forward! 🐄
Now, our 1-litre whole milk bottles proudly wear the same game-changing seals—completely plant-based, and best of all, they don’t need heat to seal! 🙌 That means we’re saving energy while giving you the freshest, creamiest milk from the organic farms of Southwest Scotland
We’ve been single use plastic-free since 2019, but we’re always working to be greener. These seals just go straight into your food bin, helping the planet one bottle at a time. 🌍✨
Got questions? Send us a Moo-sage! We're always up for a chat. 💬🌿

Moments that matter.✨
A Country Time Lemonade manufacturing incident marked the inception of IDC's, now Greenfield Solutions - IFPC's sister company, recycling business, showcasing a commitment to environmental responsibility. By repurposing 300 truckloads of lemonade mix into valuable sweeteners for animal feed, IDC pioneered the concept of utilizing unused food products. This initiative led to the establishment of Sugar Tree and the implementation of recycling practices at IDC's Dillon plant in Iowa.
Over the years, Greenfield Solutions proactive recycling efforts have repurposed millions of pounds of food byproducts annually, totaling five billion pounds by the company's 50th anniversary. This commitment not only benefits businesses but also contributes to community well-being and environmental sustainability, reflecting Greenfield Solutions' core values and fostering a sense of pride.
Follow along as we continue to share significant milestones and other fun facts that shaped IFPC into the company we are today in our Moments that Matter social media series. 😁

Is that a….
Decapitated Pineapple?
Yes, and it’s Aldi UK’s work.
They’re trialling crownless pineapples to reduce food waste.
By removing the green leaves during production, which are often thrown away by us shoppers…
The crowns can be recycled ♻️
These crowns will either be used for future crops or converted into animal feed, potentially cutting food waste by 1,400 tonnes annually if implemented nationwide.
This also allows more pineapples to be transported in each box, saving an estimated 187 tonnes of cardboard yearly.
So, has anyone seen these yet?
The crownless pineapples are currently available in select stores in the Midlands, Yorkshire, and the North East.
What are your thoughts on the initiative?

Composting is a great way to recycle organic materials — think potato peels or coffee grounds from your kitchen and trimmings from your lawn! With a little know-how, you can turn these scraps into a sort of free "fertilizer," helping plants grow.
DOs:
🌿 Do compost fruit and vegetable scraps.
🍂 Do add yard waste like leaves and grass clippings.
🥚 Do include eggshells and coffee grounds.
DON'Ts:
❌ Don't compost meat or dairy products.
❌ Don't include plastic or plastic-coated products.
❌ Don't let the compost pile become too wet or too dry.

In 1983, I took my first winemaking titled position at a winery in Southern California where every day the sound of recycling was audible & prioritized.
Joseph Filippi from Joseph Filippi Winery ran nearly a full time crew washing glass bottles for multiple wineries in Southern California, including the well known San Antonio Winery of Riboli Family Wines.
Glass being separated, washed, sanitized, reboxed, and palletized, ready for shipment back to client wineries for reuse.
The tell-tale sound of glass pinging against each other with the added shattering of glass as the workers threw away glass that didn’t make it past inspection.
Imagine, that 40 years ago the California wine industry was massively focused on efficiencies and natural resource conservation.
Climate evolution aside, natural resource conservation is the motivational topic that most every human can align with.
Natural resource conservation means reducing waste.
Natural resource conservation means saving our hard-earned money.
Natural resource conservation means reducing the impact on our water, power, & fuel systems.
Natural resource conservation reduces the energy that creates environmental stress, the exact topic of climate change.
“Reduce-reuse” is the easiest part of the “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle” trio.
Just think about the waste we so easily walk right by without a thought.
Leaving the water running when brushing our teeth.
30+% of all food grown does make it into actual consumption because we throw away food we don’t eat.
I imagine if we got serious about this, we would put the “garbage disposal” manufacturers out of business!
If we got serious about this, our scraps would compost in every home for a garden, not by government mandates but by good stewardship principles that we teach and mentor into every generation.
Much alike, Free Flow Wines & Flexcube’s business foundations are principles of resource conservation that do not cause an increase in natural resources per-capita but rather greatly reduce the use & need for ‘consuming’, literally engineering quality & efficiency as something more than just a “marketing message”.
Supporting Free Flow with more than audible support is to embrace it with a purchase order.
Remember the Blue Diamond Growers Almond ads, “Just a can a week, that’s all we ask.”
Change, & a true societal conscience is shown through purchase orders.
Sometimes a little regulatory ‘encouragement’ may be helpful, but certainly should not be the driver of our conscience.
Whether it’s the 200 year old tree we harvest for 7 barrels to throw away 5-7 years later (dwell in that for a moment) or the producing of more waste to make on-premise wine consumption more efficient & accessible (not to mention more or less affordable), change has & always will occur through our spending habits.

It’s a change we all benefit from.

"Companies, consumers and governments increasingly realise there’s no way our planet can continue supporting the status quo of disposable packaging. It’s not feasible to recycle our way out of this mess. It’s either
reducing our total usage, which means recession or finding a
way to reuse our resources."

It's becoming more important than ever to learn more ways to reuse your food and veg instead of having wastage.
So, what do you think of this hack?
If you’re green-fingered, you may be aware of this already… 🌱
But things such as vegetable peelings, fruit waste, teabags, plant prunings, and grass cutting are brilliant for compost!
Have you ever used any of the above for your composting?

Cinco de Mayo is Sunday. It's also the first day of International Compost Awareness Week! Let's compost all the limes and avocados (among other things). Limes have a high acidity level, but carbon-rich materials like shredded cardboard and dried leaves can help balance the pile's pH. The avocado waste can go in too, but the skin is slow to decompose. To speed up the process, cut the peels into small squares before adding them to your composter.
