From Sea to Supper: Fishy Fridays facts 🐟🍟🌊🐠 It’s no secret that here in UK we love our fish and chips. 😋 Here are a few fun facts about our favourite national dish: 🐟”Malins” fish and chip shop, was the first to open in London’s East End in 1860. 💳 The average spend on fish and chips in the UK is £1.2 billion, showing we still enjoy this weekly tradition. 🍽️ 80% of the UK population will eat the dish at least once a year and 22% make a weekly pilgrimage to eat this delicious, crispy dish. 😃 Good news! Fish and chips is a balanced and nutritious meal, with just 7.3% fat and only 2.8% saturated fat in an average portion. Compare that to a pork pie with 10.8% fat. So go ahead and treat yourself guilt free at your local takeaway, pub or restaurant. 😇 Whether wrapped in newspaper or served on a plate, fish and chips remain a timeless comfort—a taste of tradition that transcends generations. This year's Waitrose & Partners Food & Drink Report has been unveiled and as always, it's delicious and fascinating reading! The report shows that 2024 was the year of crookies, hash browns, chocolate butter, cucumbers, pistachio croissants (which has been my personal favourite; have you tried the Waitrose one yet?), pimped up pantry staples, Tim Tams and Ottolenghi and lot's more. Up and down the country, food lovers have been scratch cooking with shortcuts and recreating restaurant and bar experiences at home. Not only that, they've been upgrading their weekly shops, with many opting for more premium cuts of meat, artisan loaves and free range cream with the ultimate goal of preparing and sharing great food with friends and family!
