GROWTH SUSTAINABILITY “Motivation is the catalysing ingredient for every successful innovation,” said Clayton Christensen, Economist and professor at Harvard University. Once you start off your enterprise, it’s inevitable to think, plan, and strategize the various ways to grow it, nurture it, and develop it into an outstanding establishment. What then drives you and sustains you to reach this level? ✅Resilience- while challenges are inevitable when growing your business, it’s important to develop a stoic and resilient backbone to withstand the tough times and overcome these hurdles for greater rewards ahead. ✅People-oriented- your enterprise must be solving a challenge that is experienced in the society, therefore, the focus of making people’s lives better, should be enough fuel to keep driving your vision, goals and objectives to improve the society for a broader impact. Assessing your product feedback and acting on it to improve your services rapidly boosts your enterprise's growth. ✅Legacy building- some entrepreneurs are motivated by the desire to leave a lasting legacy. Building a successful enterprise that endures beyond your involvement becomes a significant goal to steer you forward. ✅Financial success- the pursuit of financial prosperity is a powerful motivator, this can alternatively be used as a great force or change agent within the society. Dr. James Mwangi, CEO of Equity Bank Limited, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, and Strive Masiyiwa, Zimbabwean businessman and philanthropist, share their golden secrets and key motivators of driving their enterprises to immense growth and success. When you feel like quitting, remember why you started because success is not always about greatness but about consistency. Exciting news, article just published. I thank my excellent co-author Giuseppe Valenza. We are really glad that we could contribute to the journal Strategic Change (2*ABS). This literature review examines how SMEs can enhance resilience by adopting sustainable strategies. It identifies five key thematic areas: “barriers, contextual factors, and government help,” “entrepreneurial orientation or attitude,” “capabilities and lean thinking,” “means and processes,” and “supply chains, synergies, and collaborations.” The findings indicate that transitioning to sustainable practices can lead to more resilient business models. The research contributes to the literature on SMEs by linking sustainability with resilience and suggesting future research directions to explore this relationship further. I would like to acknowledge that this work has been (partially) financed by the European Union—Next Generation EU and the Italian Minister of University and Research (MUR) through the project “GRIS – Growing Resilient Italian SMEs” (No. 2022X9YPZJ) within the PRIN 2022 program. Open access publishing facilitated by Universita degli Studi di Palermo, as part of the Wiley - CRUI-CARE agreement. #Entrepreneurship #SMEs #Sustainability #Resilience #SustainableDevelopment

Happy World Sustainability Day! #worldsustainabilityday I'm often asked why I became a sustainability focused entrepreneur, so here's my top 3 reasons - and why I think you should move into this work too! 1. Purpose: Being an entrepreneur is always hard work, it's full of the biggest ups and downs imaginable. But when your work is routed in people, planet and profit, it becomes a lot easier to pick yourself up after the blows, because you know that your effort is going to make a difference. 2. Community: I have always been fascinated by the importance of community to people's health and happiness, societal cohesion and nature, and I believe that the move away from neoliberal economic policies to a doughnut economics model will foster more opportunities to live happier, healthier lives in line with how nature intends it. 3. Growth: The green economy is growing at a rate of 9%. That's 4 x the rate of the rest of the UK economy. We need to meet out net zero targets by 2050 for the sake of people and planet, and business has a significant and important role to play in driving forward change. There is opportunity in this marketplace to make a difference and see business benefit too. Why did you become a sustainability focused entrepreneur? What part of the challenge are you solving in your business?
