I was honored to have been asked to write the inaugural piece of @scalawagmagazine’s “As the South Votes: 2024” series. I love my home state and it will continue to influence my politics, my integrity, my philanthropy, my love, my work, and my unwillingness to cede it to those who would have me and mine harmed simply for who we are. In the words of the late John Lewis, “Each generation inherits the movement.” LINK to article: https://lnkd.in/gWPQVs3P

More and more organisations across sectors now claim to be "purpose driven". Should we welcome this widening of social purpose beyond the traditional confines of the nonprofit sector, or be wary? And what challenges or unintended consequences might the embrace of purpose bring? We explore in our latest long read: https://lnkd.in/e-4Hytvf

Success isn't just about financial gains; it's about leaving a positive impact. True fulfillment comes from making a difference in the lives of others. Whether it's through acts of kindness, philanthropy, or advocacy, strive to leave a lasting legacy of compassion and generosity. Embrace the power of service and let your actions inspire change. Is the philanthropy of large foundations, most often leaning to progressive norms, likely to repair our polarized civil society? William Schambra suggests, to the contrary, that Big Philanthropy would do better to butt out and let ordinary people find their own solutions piecemeal. My concern is that grassroots solutions seem to be tending toward political violence rather than reasoned disagreement. I had hoped Bill would speak to that by defending our Constitutional checks and balances, the rule of law, free elections, the orderly transfer of power, and philanthropy as a kind of free speech. I will link below to a piece on political violence.

The Power of Community: Unlocking Our Potential Together. As humans, we thrive in communal living. Whether it's family, friends, classmates, or church, being part of a community brings joy, support, and a sense of belonging. Yesterday, my big sister invited me to join her for a gathering, and we had an amazing time connecting with others and creating wonderful memories. But what struck me most was the story they shared about their community coming together to raise 10 million naira for a member whose business was on the verge of bankruptcy. And that fellow bounced back and the business started booming again. I was so wowed! By that singular act of community strenght. This community's selfless act is a testament to the power of collective support and care. When we come together, we can achieve extraordinary things! Community is about giving value and recieving value. Let's nurture our communities, invest in relationships, and support one another. Together, we can overcome challenges, celebrate successes, and create a ripple effect of kindness and generosity. The progress you are making as an individual can do better when the power of community is applied. However, thriving in a community requires some skills. Its will be disastrous that others will be building while some will be scattering, For a community to thrive, there must be vision, Mission, core values and a guiding principles. Remember what we know is what we transfer to the next generation. Have a bless week ahead. Share your own stories of community power in the comments below! Let's inspire and uplift each other. #CommunityFirst #SupportEachOther #TogetherWeThrive #KindnessMatters #GenerosityInspires"

On Monday mornings, we could all use a little boost, right? I know I sure AF could use a reminder as to WHY I keep pushing SO hard, investing my own money and time into changing work and building a nonprofit ON TOP OF my for-profit consulting biz. Phew, no wonder I’m tired. Within 1 year founding my first business it was clear to me that to change systems you need to create a new ecosystem, that hits the current one punch for punch. This is how in 5 short years, I ended up with not 1 startup, but basically 3, and a 4th on the way. It's not easy to #MakeItWork, but it IS working. I had my best year of my consultancy last year (4th year) and then I shifted gears to go all in on building our nonprofit membership community, FLOWLab⁵. I believe in the nonprofit so much I reinvested all my income and so far I have zero regrets. Before I take a MUCH needed break, and before we officially launch the new site and shift to our first BIG capital push (fundraising), I'm asking for a boost to #KeepGoing. Leading a community on top of all this (with the BEST support ever) is still A LOT OF MAINTENANCE and massive amount of design work. I am also a human with needs...to sleep, eat, shower, parent, create, and run a household. If you are one of the 400+ people who have attended a FLOWLab session in the past 2 years, or a person who loves to see other social entrepreneurs continue to grow and expand their impact, please give a tax-deductible (U.S.) donation. We are SO CLOSE to launching our new site and platform. Support the Future of Work we're building TODAY.

After receiving this photo I looked up the word #foundation. What I found could be used as the next marketing piece for affordable homeownership (according to AI)… Ways a strong foundation can help you: Resilience: A solid foundation can help you stay grounded and unshaken in the face of life's storms. Security: A strong foundation can provide a sense of security and stability. Creativity: A strong foundation can enable creative action. Independence: A strong foundation of independence can help you choose how you spend your time and who you work for. Ethical decisions: A strong foundation can help you make ethical decisions and navigate human interactions. #foundation #affordablehomeownership #northstonington #habitatforhumanity #construction #volunteer #community
