Extremely distal clavicle fractures can present a challenge to many surgeons. Globus offers various implant options in the ANTHEM™ portfolio that can be utilized for this fracture type. Dr. Asif Ilyas of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, recently treated a patient with our ANTHEM™ Clavicle Fracture System. The patient was experiencing pain and deformity at the acromioclavicular (AC) joint due to a displaced distal clavicle fracture with shortening and bayoneting. Dr. Ilyas exposed the fracture through a superior approach, identifying the AC joint first and then reducing the fracture. Due to the clavicle fracture's very distal nature, two options were considered—either the ANTHEM™ Clavicle Fracture System’s Superior Lateral Plate or the system’s Hook Plate. Dr. Ilyas opted to use our Hook Plate to target the distal nature of the fracture without having to rely on distal fixation. Dr. Ilyas was very pleased with the ANTHEM™ system, commenting that the Hook Plate “offered excellent fixation by the counter-force provided by the acromion and screw fixation proximally.” We thank Dr. Ilyas for sharing this case and presenting a treatment option for an extremely distal clavicle fracture. En bloc dissection is a surgical technique used by a retinal surgeon to remove the tractional membranes that cause diabetic tractional retinal detachment. It involves carefully grasping the pre-retinal membrane and peeling it away from the retina in one piece. This can be a delicate procedure but very effective in treating diabetic tractional retinal detachment. In this case, silicon oil was not used as a tamponade.

🐾 Case Study: Surgical Reconstruction of Comminuted Humeral Articular Y-Fracture in an adult Cat 🐱 In a recent case, my colleague Federico Manni and I, encountered a young adult cat who suffered significant injuries after falling from the fourth floor, resulting in a comminuted articular fracture of the left humerus and elbow. Recognising the severity of the situation, our out of hours team stabilised the patient and carried out the initial imaging procedures to plan for the complex repair. We opted for an anatomical reconstruction employing titanium polyaxial locking plates and interfragmentary compression screws. This method was chosen for its ability to provide absolute stability and support, facilitating optimal alignment and subsequent direct healing of the fractured bones. The surgical procedure involved precise placement of the locking plates and screws to ensure proper alignment and fixation of the fragmented bone segments. This was made easier by the use of printed autoclavable resin models based on the patient's CT. By securing the fracture site with these specialised implants, we aimed to promote direct bone healing while minimising the risk of displacement or malunion or exhuberant callus formation near the joint line.
