Many EU countries rely heavily on 💧 water that originates outside their borders. #ClimateChange and increased demand are leading to greater competition between countries for the planet’s water resources. The 🇪🇺 Water Framework Directive sets the standard for integrated river basin management by promoting cooperation through joint bodies and shared practice for water quality assessment and monitoring. The Danube River Protection Convention ICPDR complements that as a model for effective transboundary water management, focusing on the conservation and rational use of the river's waters. Let's be #WaterWiseEU and protect our rivers 👉 https://lnkd.in/eRn6Wc4j

UK has taken tough measure by establishing an Independent Water Commission to look at water sector comprehensively. Is it time for us too or are we already late? UK says it needs an additional 5 billion litres of water a day by 2050 and plans investments for the same. Do we also have such simple objectives? Today, the UK and Welsh Governments have announced the Independent Water Commission, the biggest industry review in 35 years. With our rivers struggling and facing huge challenges, this is welcome news. We'll be keeping a close eye on the review to ensure that it tackles the interconnected challenges of land use, water management, and nature, all of which are crucial to securing a sustainable future for our rivers. 🌍💧🌊#WorldWaterDay's awareness efforts are crucial, yet they must be complemented by #data-driven #policies and practical solutions to effectively tackle #globalwaterchallenges. 📢#WaterScarcity acknowledged, but requires localized solutions due to uneven distribution. #Pollution and #Sanitatio awareness is good; however, 💰investment in infrastructure and technology is needed for tangible improvements. #Water and #Peace equitable distribution can aid peace, but the complex #geopolitics of water disputes necessitates a careful approach. #Annual #Themes guide discussions but should be paired with case studies and actionable policies for real impact. #ScientificResearch #Sustainablewater #waterresourcesmanagement #Supportresearch.

The UK government's efforts to clean up England's rivers, lakes and seas have been criticised by a key environmental watchdog as "poor". Making and updating legislation is a vital role of any government - but it's only a part of the entire leadership function. The government's roles are many; its primary purpose to protect its people and keep society safe and organized, thus maintaining order and stability. Governments also need to enact laws to benefit the local and global environment, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting climate-friendly practices such as investing in clean energy, encouraging energy efficiency, and managing all waste by employing a safe, environmentally-friendly methodology. These measures help combat climate change and preserve the planet for future generations. If governments fail to do any of these, society and the environment will fall into chaos and will suffer. Once legislation is passed, there are important additional provisos to make it work. It is necessary to provide the requisite direction, funding, education and detail at all levels, which, in turn, will facilitate action and commitment. Government actions require funding - especially in this particular case - so, governments should stop concentrating on appeasing voters with short-term sweeteners as a means to maintain their term in office, and get on with the job for which they were originally elected.
