🎙 In this week's instalment of the ITPro Podcast, Jane McCallion and Rory Bathgate speak to Laura Hutton, co-founder and chief customer officer at Quantexa.
💡 As we celebrate International Women's Day 2024, there's still much more to be done to support women in tech. Sectoral biases and a lack of support in education suppress sector diversity, while female founders face discrimination and funding rounds built on exclusionary ideas.
💬 “We need to identify early those female entrepreneurs, those female startups and give them the relevant support so that they know how to approach this world in the right way. And actually, if they are pitching to people who are different to themselves, how do they pitch in a way that attracts the investment level?”

As a woman #founder who started my career in the late '80's, I was more often than not, the only girl in the room. Back then, it was rare to see women in tech roles, but now I work alongside amazing women from different generations, all the way up to those born in the late '90s. We're proof of how much progress has been made.
Yet, our goal is bigger. We're working toward a time when having women in tech isn't unusual—it's just how things are. We want young women entering tech to be judged by their skills and what they bring to the table, not their gender.
To all the women in tech: your hard work and success pave the way for a future where #diversity is the norm. Let's keep pushing for a tech world that's inclusive every day, not just when we celebrate achievements.
Here's to making a future where diversity in tech is just part of everyday life!

At Richmond Technology Council - rvatech/ women in technology conference today and someone asked such a provocative question of the Deep Tech Panel: “What advice would you give when you find yourself always the only woman at the table?”
The room took a collective deep breath…and thanks to the panelists (Kelley Williamson, Karen D. Sorber, Somiah (So-May-uh) Lattimore, CSPO, and Aesha Mehta) for sharing some great, candid nuggets of wisdom.
-Just own what you want to say and if you’re hesitant to say it…use questions.
-Ask the question why? Why are there no women or women of color in this room?
-Find the men that support you. Leverage the help of those willing to support you and make space for your voice.
-Make sure it’s a room you want to be in. If it is, then make a seat at the table for the next woman.
