Would you hire someone, sight unseen, for a senior level knowledge-worker job? Would you leave your current position without ever talking to your new boss because the AI felt you were the perfect match? What about marrying someone? Investing your life savings into a single stock? Ludicrous, right? Part of harnessing the power of technology is preserving that which makes us consummately human. Tech provides better data so WE can make better decisions. Tech can automate boring work so WE can be more creative and have more time to connect with our loved ones. This requires us to be very intentional about our tech AND our humanity. I encourage everyone to keep this in mind as you look to expand your skills and grow as a person. Acquiring technical skills is fantastic, but ultimately, it's your human side that closes deals, lands jobs, finds a partner.

Working as a tech consultant is basically jumping from trend to trend and buzzword to buzzword. Can a tech consultant really help 🫵🏾? A year ago I graduated with a degree in Computer Science with focus on artificial intelligence. A year later, mostly everything I learned about AI has become outdated. People constantly figure out ways to refine existing models to perform better. New buzzwords come in. The present becomes the past quick. Working as a technology consultant for the last year, I can say that everyone wants to get in on the new stuff, even if they have not yet understood it. My role? Understand it first and teach them how to do it. However, I have had a dilemma in my career over the last months. The dilemma is this: People love the hype, but often don’t need it. As a technology consultant, you are seen as an expert. People trust you. When you provide advice on implementing new technology, do you latch onto the hype and teach people the newest tech? Your creation of a new opportunity surely produces more money for the company, and this is how you get ahead in your career. Provide value to your company, and on a long enough time frame, you’ll get there. But will this actually help the client? I have had a constructive conversation with a close friend yesterday and this question was raised. Did I do impactful work that helped the client or did I make my company a buck? What did you do?

Why You Don't Need to Fear Losing Your Job* to Technology People are worried about 'technology' replacing their job Technology makes boring things easier, better, less manual, and yes sometimes not necessary -> Sorry yellowpages...you had your century. Here are three reasons why your job likely isn't going away: 1) Your Role Isn't Vanishing - it's upgrading Technology replaces only parts of your job -> it makes you more efficient at your job. Example....accounting roles: still important, and easier with tools like Ramp to streamline tedious tasks like managing expenses. Try coordinating spending for a nationwide team without technology. It would be terrible and anyone who did it, doesn't want to go back to the "good old days" 2) Let's Be Honest: You won't miss the boring tasks Do you truly love entering rows of data from a PDF into a spreadsheet? That's why you're reading this post...you're just avoiding doing that busy work! Technology frees us from repetitive tasks that stink. So that we have more time for creative, meaningful work....like making memes! 3) Redundant jobs are disappearing Most jobs won't be eliminated outright, they will evolve. Usually the replacement hires for repetitive tasks are what is are being phased out through non-replacement, while companies shift their focus to roles that require more strategic thinking or human creativity. "But is that me?" If it is, keep reading. *Your job is to keep improving in your professional skills. So the real secret to not losing your job to technology is to make adopting new technology part of your job. You can't stay put!

Is your LinkedIn feed flooded with qualified friends, colleagues and connections looking for jobs? (Not written by AI) 💡Mine too. Which begs the question, why? Is there less demand for jobs? Are companies laying off more? Are good people leaving bad roles and looking for new ones? Have people become complacent and been let go? 🖇One answer could be the trend in today’s workplace, where everyone must wear every hat and do every job, hence leaving highly-skilled and specialized candidates on the job market shelf. With startups on the rise, and large companies pushing goals and projects beyond teams, people have stretched and grown to accomplish great things, but at what cost? Fatigue, stress, and lack of focus on letting each team member’s true talents shine. Example: John, a software engineer is forced to manage work flows and projects, while Susan, the project manager, has to dabble in code and design, all for the sake of the deadline for a new shiny project. The result? No jobs get accomplished optimally, teams break down, and goals are not met. The highly specialized worker is penalized and teams are restructured. 🔑In the age of AI pushing boundaries and sky high company aspirations, implementing guardrails and protecting and optimizing talent is more key than ever.🔑 Do you agree? Comment why below.
