March is not only #NationalNutritionMonth, but it’s also Kidney Health Awareness Month. Kidneys play a crucial role in filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the leading causes of chronic kidney disease which often progresses silently, showing few symptoms until the advanced stages. A kidney disease diagnosis can be challenging, from dietary restrictions to medication management, and navigating daily life with later-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) can be daunting. Something as simple as a plate of vegetables might require modification to reduce the risk of progressing the disease. Dealing with kidney issues may require patience, strength, resilience, and support from loved ones and healthcare professionals. As with preventing most diseases, regular physical activity, and managing blood sugar and blood pressure can help prevent kidney issues. But, as is often the case, social determinants of health may make these habits difficult for many. Regular check-ups, including kidney function tests, can help detect issues early. Working with a #RegisteredDietitian is crucial, especially when trying to navigate the many stages of kidney disease progression. Dish: poached pears, pomegranate seeds, blood orange, goat cheese crumbles, radish, chicory lettuce mix, honey pomegranate vinaigrette #KidneyHealth #DishWithDina

My client Daphne came to see me with a previously diagnosed Candida albicans overgrowth, and was presenting with various symptoms including anxiety, insomnia, food intolerances, sinus congestion, headaches, abdominal bloating and pain. After some more exploratory tests we discovered further extensive gut dysbiosis (imbalance of gut bacteria) and the presence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). After several months of working together, this was what she shared with me. Are you ready to commit to making changes to your health? Functional testing can help us pinpoint the root causes of chronic health problems and get results more quickly than guesswork.
