Today I was asked an excellent question - "What's your most loved project?" I immediately knew the answer was ladderly.io (an educational platform for programmers). I feel like I did an awful job explaining why. "I can see that I help people," I said. I gave some measurable results around audience size, growth, and positive outcomes for users. These are fairly compelling on impact, but they don't answer the question. Outcomes don't prove passion. I reflected afterwards and I think I have a better data-oriented proof of my passion: It's an awful ROI to my time but I keep allocating time! Ladderly has generated four figures in revenue over the past year (like, low fours. Like, starting with a one.) I have streamed 43 hours over the past two months. Let's annualize that time alone, ignoring the additional time making shorts, coding off-stream, and other pro-community moves off stream. That's over 240 hours for under $2k. That's an hourly rate under $9 per hour. I'm in it for the vicarious utility felt when other people succeed. I'm in it for the creative aspect. I'm in it for the fun and community, not the money.
