PM Poshan Abhiyaan, aiming to reduce malnutrition by 25% by 2025, and the use of superfoods like millets (“Shri Ann”) demonstrate the government’s commitment to a healthier future. India is considered the “Diabetes capital of the World”, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) found that India has over 100 million diabetics and 136 million pre-diabetics, which is 15.3% of the population, and this number is projected to increase. Knowing what’s on our plates is more critical than ever. Despite increasing health awareness, many restaurants still lack nutritional transparency, leaving diners, like us, unaware of what they’re consuming. Consumers have the right to make informed choices that align with their health goals. For restaurants, embracing nutritional transparency isn't just about meeting regulations; it's an opportunity to stand out in a competitive market and bond with the consumer, thus creating trust. Health-conscious diners value honesty, and those who provide clear, accurate nutritional information can build a loyal customer base. As a nutritionist, I humbly request everyone, before you consume anything, please read what is in it, that way there will be more awareness of what you are consuming, which will ultimately led to more healthier choices and better quality of food and ultimately life. Let's work together to create a dining culture in India that prioritizes both health and taste. What do you think? Tell me in the comments and repost this if you feel we need to be more aware of the food we eat. #health #nutrition #awareness #transparency #India #NutritionalTransparency #HealthAndWellness #InformedChoices #HealthyEating #NutritionMatters

Access, Availability and Affordability of food is a need for everyone, access to food addressing nutrition needs not everyone gets it. The food we consume daily is a great source to address our nutrition needs, what is important is whether everyone among us can get it - beyond subsistence. While interacting with the communities engaged in the primary sector (Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Tea/Coffee plantation, Salt pan and Brick kiln workers) it was clear that access, availability and affordability plays a huge role in what is consumed by these communities daily. While PDS provides access to food for millions of cardholders, it doesn't address the nutrition needs of these communities and hence diversifying 'what is on the plate' with an ability to pay becomes very important. Important to mention here, it goes worse for those who don't have access to PDS and don't get sufficient quantity of food (rice or wheat) if dependent on it. It's NOT hard to think about what could be the nutrition gaps for women and children in these communities and this study has been able highlight it quite well. There is more talk about it, happy to connect. Enjoy reading!
🔊 LAUNCH ALERT: Understanding Dietary Behaviours Among Primary Sector Worker Communities in India Food and the practices around it form an integral part of our being. Our relationship with #food is often more than simple — it defines our existence, our cultural composition, and, most importantly, our health and wellbeing. However, the availability of "good" food is defined by various factors, including access, availability, affordability, awareness, and acceptability. Working with hard-to-reach communities across the country on micronutrient deficiencies, one of our key focus areas is to drive behaviour change around nutritious food and diets. This exploratory #study by Vitamin Angels India, supported by UNICEF India and conducted by Purple Audacity, aims to gather insights into 6 primary sector worker communities in India. The study sheds light on diets and behaviours and situations that frame it, including awareness, use of tech, market access, and others that impact consumption patterns among vulnerable communities. The study and its findings are a stark reminder of some of the basic things we take for granted, and highlights the urgent need for better nutrition information, especially among women and #children, and how tailored interventions may be a way forward. Today, on #worldobesityday, we want to start a conversation about a #critical shift in our #nutritional behaviour. While we've moved beyond simple #malnutrition, the rise of "false nutrition" is concerning. People are unknowingly consuming excessive #calories under the guise of #healthy and satiating options. Data from India paints a worrying picture. According to NFHS-5, a staggering 56% of women and 47.7% of men have a high-risk waist-to-hip ratio. This not only suggests a greater risk of #chronicdiseases in women but also highlights the vulnerability of a significant portion of the Indian population. The risk is not confined solely to India; it is a global concern. For too long, #BMI has been the standard measure of nutritional health, often misleading individuals, healthcare professionals, and scientific community. The inclusion of waist-to-hip ratio in the NFHS-5 survey is a positive step towards a more accurate #assessment. But knowing is not enough. We need to actively ‘Know our Food’, ‘Be aware of marketing tactics used by large food corporations’ and ‘Embrace waist-to-hip ratio as a vital health metric alongside regular weight checks.’ A generation's health is at stake. Let's embrace informed choices, prioritize real nutrition, and move towards a healthier future. #health #healthcare #digitalhealth #publichealth #publicpolicy #obesity #nutrition #healthmetrics #chronicdisease #noncommunicablediseases #worldobesityday #foodchoices #falsenutrition

True that, now a days with the apps helping to deliver in minutes to seconds in competition, we fall into this and the stressful world of jobs, commute contributed to easy go fast food / packed foods come as aid. When one goes on a 2-wheeler onto road, the footpaths on either side of the roads are full of fast-food centres. Recently I have been to a very posh city where in it was like tough to cover, ONLY TO SEE all the available food joints, got to know that there are many such areas. Cooking at home has become a challenging feat to satiate the taste buds , due to social media and all internet apps, shorts, promoting foods of different regions and geographies, every one wants to taste all which is another tough feat. Internet Gyan is increasing day by day, as number of coaches are also increasing (home based business) thanks for social media. 💡 Kids come home complaining, see my friend brought that to school, and you people dont allow us to eat. 😊 Appreciations/Pat on back - To eat our traditional regional home food is now the new game. 🤔 #justsaying #homefood #traditionalfood #commonparent
India is the diabetes capital of the world and heart-attacks are rising amongst the youth. Most Indians think we are getting sick because of eating at restaurants. But we eat at restaurants only around 6 times per month on average, which means we eat at home the remaining 84 meals per month (assuming we have 3 meals a day). Why are we increasingly falling sick in spite of eating at home? One of the reasons is because of the quality of our packaged food. According to studies, India's packaged food is the worst in the world. A study which analyzed 4 lakh products across the world found that Indian packaged food has the most sugar, salt, saturated fat and calories compared to other countries. (Source: George Institute for Global Health) This low quality packaged food is what most Indians eat at home. "Ghar pe khana" and "ghar ka khaana" are two very different things! Sirf ghar pe mat khaiye, ghar ka khana khaiye!

3moIrrespective of whatever these educated 'Experts' say, they can not prove. Millets make life very very difficult. There is hardly any nutrition therein. Actual Life Support and Great Health comes from Wheat, White Rice, Dal Vegetables and Fruits only, The earlier we come to this reality the earlier we would make the life healthier. All 'concepts' like Calorie Concept have NO Scientific Evidence and aas such are all 'Superstitious'. Food is Food and is not about Carbs and Proteins and Fat and Fibre. Given an Opportunity I can prove how Wheat and Rice is better than the 'Shree Ann'. Nowhere in Indian and Hindu scriptures there is any mention of Shree Ann.
