#DYK the theme of #InternationalWomensDay is Inspire Inclusion? It’s a topic that hits close to home for me as a woman leader in the staffing industry. According to the Women’s Business Collaborative, while women comprise 63% of staffing’s workforce, we only make up 38% of the industry’s board positions. While there is still progress to be made, I was proud to see the American Staffing Association’s board of directors reach gender parity last year. As a senior leader at ASA, it is a privilege to work with inspiring leaders such as Joanie Bily, Janette Marx, ✔ Threase A. Baker CSP, TSC, Creative Staffing Professional, Dana Baughns, Susan Dietrich, SPHR ,TSC, CSP, Karenjo Goodwin, Kristen Harris, CSP, Laura MacNeel, Robin Mee, Ranjini Poddar, Joyce Russell, and DeLibra Wesley who are making amazing strides on behalf of the staffing industry. It’s also exciting to witness the incredible growth of ASA’s #WomeninLeadership program. In just a few short years, the Women in Leadership Council (and its terrific ASA liaison Diana Tavares Mertz, CAE) has built a community of strong women who are supporting each other in their career journeys. From books to events, podcasts to scholarships for emerging leaders, the Women in Leadership Council is transforming staffing for the better. On this International Women’s Day, please consider nominating an emerging woman leader for a Women in Leadership scholarship. These scholarships award rising stars who are committed to a career in staffing and have shown career growth potential. Indeed it's not too late to grab those tickets for Women's Agenda Leadership Awards where I will be the MC. This morning, after reading the 2024 Women in the Workplace from McKinsey & Company shared on #TechDiversity ’s social page, I felt a profound mix of pride and urgency. As I prepare to MC the Women’s Leadership Awards on October 23rd, I’m reminded of the progress we've made but also of the work that still lies ahead. The report, marking its 10th year, lays bare both the advancements and the continued challenges for women in the workforce—particularly women of color. According to the report, for every 100 men promoted to manager, only 54 Black women make that same leap—a statistic that hit me hard this morning. It’s a reminder that despite our strides, systemic obstacles persist, keeping too many women from reaching leadership roles. The report also underscores how microaggressions and workplace bias continue to disproportionately affect women, contributing to burnout and disengagement. These are issues I see reflected in the stories I hear every day within our TechDiversity community. It's clear that while some companies are making strides—such as offering more flexibility and bias training—we need to push for deeper, more accountable changes, particularly around career development and mentorship. As we gather for the Women’s Leadership Awards, it’s not just a celebration of those who have made it, but a call to action for all of us to keep pushing for equity.
