I call this one “It’s 7:04am, there’s fourteen guys on-site standing around like little league outfielders, it’s raining, and the first sequence steel delivery truck broke down 164 miles from the site (some time last night)” This post is delayed by a couple weeks, but due to personal/home reasons I have resigned my position with SS20 building systems. It was an incredibly difficult decision that I probably waited too long to make. I would like to thank SS20 for the most incredible professional years of my career. You believed in me, supported me, cared about me, mentored me, inspired me, paid the shit out of me, and showed me just how good a workplace can be. I have never worked for, and with, such an awesome group of dedicated professionals. Casey, Wendy, Wes, Emil, Casey2.0, Dona, Lauren, CT, George, Chris and Tammy Woodward and the Woodward family- Thank you! Subcontractors and customers- the best in the world. I learned so much about self-storage and structural steel from all of you. I can’t thank you enough for your time, effort, support, patience, and your business. Straight facts from an ex-insider: If you’re developing a self storage building, there’s not a structural steel fabricator and erector I would trust more than SS|20 Building Systems. This is a company with integrity, expertise, and the financial stability to get the job done right. Their GM Casey P. Morey is ridiculously good, give him a call. They also have an excellent core group of subcontractors. Not any easy thing to build. I have always been impressed with foundational principles and character guiding the operations at SS20. Second-to-none. If you really want to know what kind of company SS20 is, it’s pretty obvious based on the one standing order given me by the owner of the company on the day I was hired- “Don’t ever lie to anybody, we can work out a lot, but dishonesty will get you fired quick”. Honesty, fairness, and true care for the client’s interests pervades the SS20 ship from steerage to the captains table. Go with SS20, they may not always be your lowest bidder, but their performance and knowledge will probably save you money in the end. Me? I’m working out some baggage I’ve been carrying for a lot of years. The course of my life was charted 20 years ago by a 3/4-crazy alcoholic in both drunk and dry periods. My life became Amarillo by Morning. They took my saddle in Houston, broke my leg in Santa Fe, lost my wife and a girlfriend somewhere along the way. I just had to step off this roller-coaster at this point nearly 3 years sober in recovery, and reassess where I am and where I want to go. I’m going to walk the earth for a bit, get in therapy, spend time with my 9yo daughter, trust God, and see where the universe takes me. I have presently jumped out of the proverbial airplane without a parachute…but I needed to. I have a feeling everything is going to be just fine. Thank you all with all my heart. Never stop building! 🫡 -Andrew DeForest

Sometimes in DC, the allies are very narrow, posing a challenge for deliveries with large trucks without causing damage. Weaver's Building Services took action by installing a 6" steel bollard filled with concrete, painted safety yellow to prevent further damage. #DC #BuildingServices #DamagePrevention #weaversbuildingservices #propertymanagers

Workforce Wednesday: Last week we talked about Scaffold Builders and the week before Mason Tenders. Some Mason Tenders can do it all, but many contractors have folks that specialize in washdown of the walls after the masons are finished. For those in masonry, you know that having someone that has a good attention to detail is important and how not using the right products or washdown equipment correctly can easily ruin the beautiful work that your masons just completed. The team members that wash our walls take pride in putting the finishing touches on our walls. If you're interested in starting your career in masonry, please reach out to us and we can help you create the foundation for a great career in the world of masonry! This video is a great example of how the construction industry takes the dangers of rebar impalement so lightly. We just accept the fact that it’s part of everyday life and we might get hurt on it. What I don’t think the industry knows is 25% of impalements result in a fatality. The other 75% changes people’s lives negatively forever. When it happens it’s horrific. According to OSHA statistics there were 4 impalement fatalities in 2022, we can prevent this. Let’s raise awareness and keep our woman and men safer with tools that work.
Call it the rebar

One of the benefits of working with Shawton Engineering is that we can fabricate items off-site. The benefits of this are: ▫ Reducing overall project timelines, as while fabrication is underway, other projects and preparation can take place on-site. ▫ Fabricating components in our controlled environment means better quality control measures, as opposed to on-site where environmental factors can affect the quality of work. ▫ Off-site fabrication can result in cost savings, due to reduced labour costs, minimised material waste and fewer rework expenses. Plus, we have overhead gantry cranes that can lift up to a capacity of 30Te, making it easy to install on-site when the project and client are ready. #Shawton #ShawtonEngineering #Steelwork #SustainableConstruction #Metalwork

Scaffolding isn’t limited to flat surfaces. Modern systems with adjustable components allow safe use on uneven terrain like hillsides and slopes, ensuring secure access to challenging environments while maintaining worker safety. #ConstructionSafety #Scaffolding #AdjustableUJacks #Bangalore #cuplockscaffolding #scaffoldingforsale #sacffoldingforrent #metroscaffolding #hframes #construction #efficiency #safety #strength #cuplockscaffolding
