Mental Health Awareness Week! Do you know there is a tool to help your Central Nervous System just in your fingertips? An interesting research has emerged from Hong Kong, where data from 14 studies and over 1400 patients has been pooled together to show that... (drumroll) ACUPRESSURE has a steady, positive and scientifically proven effect for symptoms of depression and anxiety! As an acupuncturist, there is a tendency to see acupressure as so much less. My mind especially tends to always doubt and overthink ;) Which is why I love research! And then analysing this research to read between the lines. 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝘀: 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹! Knowing your core values and living by them is crucial for your well-being. 𝗩𝗶𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗹, a psychiatrist and 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿, emphasized that finding meaning in life, through one’s core values, is essential for mental health. Frankl’s logotherapy, also asserts that meaning is the primary driving force in human beings. Frankl observed that among the fellow inmates in the 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽, those who survived were able to connect with a purpose in life. Frankl believed that even in the most difficult circumstances, one can find meaning through purposeful action, loving relationships, and courageous attitudes toward suffering. When you live according to your values, you are more resilient in the face of adversity, as your life is anchored in a deeper sense of purpose. In the rush of daily life, the deeper purpose of our actions is often neglected, leading to breakdowns. Frankl argues that an 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝘂𝗺, a sense of emptiness, can be a major source of mental distress. Hence, understanding and aligning with your values is crucial for happiness and fulfillment.
