Feeling a little less sunshine-y lately? You're not alone! Shorter days can affect our mood. As we celebrate #EuropeanMentalHealthWeek this week, I am reminded of the profound importance of caring for our mental well-being with the same empathy and urgency as we do for our physical health. Mental health holds a special place in my heart, and as a business leader and firm believer in nurturing a supportive work environment, I feel an immense responsibility to ensure that every member of my team feels empowered to raise their hand, ask for support, and never feel alone. At Johnson & Johnson, we recognize that our people are our most valuable asset. It's not just about building a successful organization, it's also about cultivating a compassionate community where mental health is given the attention and care it deserves. We have made substantial investments to support the mental health of our employees worldwide by providing comprehensive resources, initiatives, and support systems, because #Mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of their role or position. Our collective responsibility lies in fostering an environment where individuals feel comfortable reaching out for help without #stigma or fear. We encourage open dialogues, destigmatize mental health discussions, and prioritize the importance of self-care. Through our internal programs, we equip our team with the tools they need to not just cope, but to flourish personally and professionally. During this #EuropeanMentalHealth Week, let's remember that supporting each other's mental well-being is not just a responsibility, it's a privilege. We can break down barriers and build a workplace culture that values and embraces mental health as an integral part of overall wellness. So, take a moment to pause, reflect, and check in with yourself and those around you. Let's create a safe space where authentic conversations can happen, where no one feels alone in their journey, and where support is readily available. Remember, we are #better together. #MyCompany #bettertogether #europeanmentalhealthweek #nostigma #mentalhealthawareness European Mental Health Week, 13 – 19 May 2024 (mentalhealtheurope.org)

Join UMO in celebrating #SelfCareWeek! This week is dedicated to spending some time with yourself, and thinking about the ways in which you can boost your wellbeing. Whether it’s going out for some much-needed fresh air, or getting your sleep schedule back on track, there’s plenty to do that will make a significant difference to how you’re feeling on a daily basis! In line with this year’s theme, ‘Mind and Body’, it’s good to remember that it’s not only your physical health that needs attention! It is so, so important to take care of your mental health too, and in many ways these two facets help to sustain each other. Below are a couple links where you can learn a bit more about Self Care Week 2024, and what you can do to give yourself some love! #SelfCareWeek2024 #SelfCare https://lnkd.in/dMZBvrvR https://lnkd.in/eN6VtMem https://lnkd.in/exJgDJfT

Its Mental Health Awareness Week 2024! 🗣️ Let's Talk: Normalizing Mental Health Conversations 🗣️ Creating a workplace culture where mental health conversations are not only accepted but encouraged is vital for fostering a supportive environment. Here's how we can make it happen: 🌟 Lead by Example: As leaders, we set the tone. Let's share our own experiences and show that it's okay to talk about mental health. 🎓 Training and Education: Empower our teams with workshops and sessions on mental health awareness. Knowledge is key to breaking down barriers. 💬 Promote Openness: Create spaces where everyone feels safe to share their experiences and seek support without judgment. 📢 Language Matters: Let's use respectful, supportive language when discussing mental health to avoid stigma. 🌱 Celebrate Success Stories: Highlight stories of resilience and recovery to inspire others and show that help is available. 💼 Provide Resources: Ensure access to mental health resources like counseling services and helplines for those who need support. ⏰ Regular Check-ins: Incorporate mental health discussions into our regular meetings and performance reviews to show that mental well-being is a priority. We wholeheartedly support The Kaleidoscope Plus Group in their mission. Their goal is to champion mental health and wellbeing, effecting tangible change by offering vital mental health support services to the community wherever they are needed. Please donate here to support them: https://lnkd.in/durw5Xan Let's make mental health conversations a natural part of our workplace dialogue. Together, we can create a culture where everyone feels valued and supported. #MentalHealthAwareness #WorkplaceWellbeing #EndTheStigma

Every Monday morning I co-host an Adoptive Families meeting through Other Parents Like Me (OPLM). We usually have 4-6 adoptive parents + the 2 co-hosts at our meetings. We go through an essay or a video about adoption each week, and we talk about the tough stuff that's going on for us. OPLM is a wonderful organization with 18+ meetings per week for different demographics or family situations. Most of the parents at OPLM have teens or young adults who are struggling with addiction, mental health, suicidality, eating disorder, etc. It's a place where everyone in the room nods with empathy when someone shares what's going on in their family. We get it! If you're looking for a place where you can get support from peer parents, find resources, and just vent, I highly recommend OPLM. Here's a coupon code for 2 months free so you can try it out: https://lnkd.in/g2brmcuC

We should be supporting employee mental well-being year-round, but May (Mental Health Awareness Month) does offer a nice moment to reflect on what we’re doing and what we could be doing better. There are plenty of things you can do that cost nothing. Here are a few ideas: 1) Start / end meetings by checking in with colleagues. This works well in small teams as well as one-on-ones. With small teams it may seem awkward at first to ask “how’s your head feeling today and how’s your heart feeling today?” but you have the power to break the ice by being vulnerable yourself and you’ll be surprised how quickly others join you. 2) Maximize use of existing (underutilized) mental health resources. Almost every organization offers an EAP and almost every organization sees painfully low utilization. Make sure that you have interacted with your EAP yourself so that you can speak from experience when recommending it. And then recommend it! Colleagues are a lot more likely to try something that you recommend than they are to click a link buried in an email or intranet. 3) Take advantage of the free stuff! Many organizations offer free resources this month and I can share a couple of my favorites from AIPM: This Mental Health Toolkit is phenomenal (https://lnkd.in/gDZFUH_M). It includes email templates, videos, and flyers. AIPM is also hosting a free mental health workshop for you AND your entire team / organization. Sign up here (https://lnkd.in/gyJsfM4C), share the link with your colleagues, and use this flyer (https://lnkd.in/ggDCkTkf) to help promote it.

The way people interact with alcohol differs from one individual to another. April is Alcohol Awareness Month, offering a chance to enhance understanding of its effects on health and society. Dr. Ryan Wade, the Director of Addiction Services at Silver Hill Hospital, shares practical advice on staying away from substances and reaching sobriety objectives. 1. Spend time with others who share your sobriety goals (or are supportive of sobriety) 2. Arrive to events late, and leave early 3. Opt-in for a mocktail, and add some fruit 4. Limit your access to substances overall -- Just don't go or find educational or recreational options that don’t center around drinking. If you or someone you know needs help for addiction, we are here to assist you.
