The Tripura Institute for Transformation (TIFT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta to foster knowledge exchange, capacity building, and research initiatives. This collaboration aims to jointly develop strategies for promoting industrialization and enhancing skill development in Tripura. Under the MoU, both institutions will work together to create platforms aligned with NITI Aayog’s State Support Mission guidelines. Kiran Gitte, CEO of TIFT, emphasized the partnership's significance in driving interventions across critical sectors and paving the way for sustainable economic development in the state. IIM Calcutta is the first institution to partner with TIFT through its Centre for Development and Environment Policy, providing consultancy services for key policy interventions. 🙏 Manmohan Singh was sleeping, suddenly got a call from PMO, said - Do you want to become the Finance Minister? 🙌 Share your tribute to the Finance Man of India with this Interesting Story. Actually, when Narasimha Rao became the Prime Minister in 1991, he needed an expert in the Finance Department. Narasimha himself had handled the Health and Education ministries. He had also been the Foreign Minister but he had never handled the Finance Ministry. He was short of money in this department. Two days before becoming the PM, Cabinet Secretary Naresh Chandra had given an 8-page note to Narasimha Rao. The note mentioned that India's economic condition was very bad. In such a situation, Narasimha Rao asked his biggest advisor PC Alexander to suggest a name for the Finance Minister who had international acceptance. Alexander suggested the name of IG Patel, former RBI Governor and Director of London School of Economics. When IG Patel was contacted, he expressed his inability to come to Delhi. Actually, his mother was ill. He was in Vadodara. In such a situation, Alexander suggested the name of Manmohan Singh for the Finance Minister. A day before the swearing-in ceremony, Alexander called Manmohan Singh. Manmohan Singh had returned from abroad. He was sleeping at that time. #Asar organised the second state-level meeting as part of its Co-creation Conclave series on #justtransition across Jharkhand in Ranchi on 1st October 2024. 30 participants from 23 civil society and community-based organisations across the state came together to ideate on actionable steps for the thematic areas that were identified during the first conclave held in May. What stood out the most wasn’t just the discussions, but the ownership that emerged. Organisations volunteered to lead and host the next three meetings—showing that this isn’t just a conversation but an initiative that’s gaining momentum! We’re now in the process of refining all the incredible ideas into a strategic roadmap for the next few months. The collective commitment was monthly virtual meet-ups and quarterly physical gatherings to ensure we keep pushing the agenda forward. Highlights of the day: ▶️⁠ ⁠The spirit of collaboration shown through multiple organisations stepping up to take leadership roles. ▶️⁠ ⁠Hearing participants reference our work with Conference of Panchayats as a model for driving systemic, long-term change was truly inspiring! ▶️⁠ ⁠Establishing clear timelines and collaborative working groups will foster accountability and ensure that the momentum from the conclave leads to tangible, on-ground results. This journey is just the beginning, and with such a dynamic and committed group, we’re inspired to work towards making a lasting impact together.
