We are celebrating our 1st year 🎗 Here is what I wish I knew before starting Credit: at the beginning stage, your company will not have any credit. Therefore, it can be extremely hard to move freight, unless you already have a big driver base that trusts you. In many cases, you can offer the drivers payment before the delivery, and they will still refuse to book, because of lack of trust. Niche down: choose a small niche, and start doing research. Learn the common issues that shippers face in this specific niche. Come up with solutions to those issues. Focus on these solutions, when doing cold calls or sales in general. Overhead: As you start growing, you will get many calls and emails from companies offering services (tracking services, TMS, marketing, customer leads, business optimizations, credit improvements, etc.). Most of these services will have a binding contract, meaning you will not be able to cancel these services unless the contract ends (some can last up to 3 years). Think twice, before accepting any of these services, because most of your customers can switch to a competitor in any day. This can result in a situation of low cash flow and high overhead, potentially leading to bankruptcy.

Today I can celebrate my 20th anniversary at Wolters Kluwer, Twinfield and I was put in the spotlight with a number of much appreciated gifts. Started in the picturesque Wijk bij Duurstede with about 10 colleagues and has now been part of the Wolters Kluwer family of more than 21,000 colleagues for many years. Summarizing 20 years is quite difficult, but I dare say there is never a dull moment. I have no idea anymore how many different roles I have had. Working long days and nights as a team to deliver the best for our customers. Celebrated many successes. Always trying to improve, almost never standing still. Experienced many beautiful moments, sometimes also very sad. Seeing many colleagues come (and go), beautiful relationships and friendships that have developed. Colleagues who have just left school to colleagues who are retiring. Weddings, births, watching children grow into teenagers and adults. (Now more and more via social media, which hardly existed 20 years ago 😉) Unfortunately, sometimes also very difficult moments such as funerals, saying goodbye to dear colleagues, the corona time, the war in Ukraine that our (former) colleagues have to deal with on a daily basis. Especially since we became part of Wolters Kluwer, I have daily international conversations with direct team members, colleagues within and outside our own division, customers and suppliers. Always new challenges, having interesting conversations and meeting people. I think the people and the dynamics are the main reason I still work here. And I think it's clear, I don't think you've gotten rid of me yet.

We all need a partner to be successful

It’s Thanksgiving (at least in the US), and I’m reflecting on how much there is to celebrate and be grateful for in our ever-evolving world. A few years back I even attempted a cycle of 365 daily gratitude posts on Instagram. I never made it all the way through, but I still learned so much about what I have to be thankful for and about the power of gratitude. Well, here’s what I’m most grateful for today: Breaking Down Walls: The joy of helping founders, investors and stakeholders from overlooked and underrepresented backgrounds be a part of the venture capital engine: from securing the capital they seek, to landing the job or board opportunity that can elevate their career and the path of the companies lucky to have them. It’s all about realizing the vision for a more prosperous and inclusive future… one that will need intention and commitment to come to be Storytellers Who Dare: Getting to witness and collaborate with theatre creators who tackle the big, difficult questions of our time, weaving their humanity into the narratives that challenge and inspire us all… and taking part in the process of bringing stories like Indigo to life. A privilege and a blessing. Desert Wisdom: Finding clarity and inspiration, once again, at Burning Man, both for understanding myself more and my place in the cosmos, and for a clearer vision of how AI can amplify, not replace, our sacred human connections… New Places, New Faces: Traveling across the world–whether for work or fun–reminds me of the great possibilities ahead and that we all share one future… the diversity and beauty of the human collective, our shared goals and strifes, our shared home, a pale blue dot we were given to care for. What are you most grateful for this year?

5 years what an achievement, this time 5 years ago I remember thinking "I hope that phone rings today", I can assure you I have never had that thought again. 5 Years at TMT has been like a well controlled, organised, fun Rollercoaster that only goes up! With more people joining our happy ship and us now building on our well established brand, I am excited to see what the next 5 years will bring. A few insights. On the property market side of things, the world of Real Estate is evolving and with it, the ways you can purchase property. Cryptocurrency's popularity is already showing it is possible to purchase property with, for example, Bitcoin, Ethereum or other digital assets. Some sellers may be open to such an exchange, however GBP will be needed for some time yet for that all important HMRC SDLT payment! Some Lenders are even starting to explore mortgages backed by Cryptocurrency. Global Payments will become faster, cheaper, more efficient and encouraging more international trade, business and investment. A fee with no exchange rate! Regulatory reform - with some Crypto Exchanges now being accepted by PII providers and Banks you can now use your Crypto investment portfolio to buy assets (all subject to AML, KYC etc etc but lets not bog this post about the future in 'red tape'). Artificial Intelligence- Chat GPT, the other day my Teams call was minuted by a Bot who took a very detailed minute by minute with sub titled topic headings at a speed I'm not sure I can talk at - some will disagree! All of the above will compliment service, personal experience, efficiency. Finally for those that may feel some trepidation regarding the future, did you know that the word FEAR has two meanings. 1.
