According to research, flywheel training is an effective strategy for a wide range of athletes to improve their performance (Buonsenso et al., 2023). For example, after flywheel training, significant improvements have been observed in: ▪️ Physical abilities of soccer players (e.g., strength, power, jumps, and changes of direction) (Allen et al., 2021) ▪️ Running economy in long-distance runners (Weng et al., 2022) ▪️ Lower body strength and power in rugby players (Murton et al., 2021) ▪️ CMJ jump performance in basketball players (Stojanović et al., 2021) At Fizjo Factory, we use a standardized protocol for testing lower limb muscle strength - the quadriceps and hamstrings - on an isokinetic dynamometer to observe such improvements. New research, published in JSAMS (the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport) has found that marathon runners who run very fast, run very slow, compete in high temperatures or are #female face significantly higher risks of a medical or serious life-threatening medical emergency. The research can be used by organisers and medical teams can cut the risks of medical and life-threatening emergencies during and after marathon and ultra-marathon events. I know local plans are complex and contentious, but we have been working hard on a draft plan that considers the homes, employment spaces, infrastructure and opportunities that our communities need. This further regulation 18 consultation provides more detail and another opportunity for stakeholders to give their views. Our last local plan is from 2003, it’s crucial we implement a new one that sets out our direction for Medway.
