I recently learned about #AgeFriendlyHealthSystems. 💡Did you know, according to IHI and the US Census Bureau, the US population aged 65+ years is expected to nearly double over the next 30 years, from 43.1 million in 2012 to an estimated 83.7 million in 2050.” ✅Hearing this validates how important it will be to incorporate care givers in care plans for aging adults. Connecting with them and their support systems, as well as identifying and solutioning when caregiver support is lacking or nonexistent, will be huge factors in delivering patient center care to the aging population. #AgeFriendlyHealthSystems are on the rise.

The Harris-Walz campaign released a new Medicare at Home policy. With 67 million seniors and people with disabilities covered by Medicare, it's astounding Medicare does not currently cover long term supports and serves in most circumstances. This puts a disproportionate burden on family caregivers. The proposal will help millions of Americans to age at home with additional supports, which would have a massive impact supporting the 54 million family caregivers bridging the care gap amidst the workforce shortage. #hcbs #caregivers #healthathome https://lnkd.in/e7ymSDXc

As we conclude our series for Older Americans Month, we continue to reflect on the insights shared by CCRC residents from our focus group. Our final discussion was centered around what residents look for in a healthy aging program: accessibility, quality nurse coaches, individualized care, and a track record of success - all essential elements that foster independence, meaningful connections, and support the well-being of aging adults. Throughout the month, we have seen how residents' priorities not only align with HealthyLifetime, but also align with the Older Americans Month theme, #PoweredbyConnection. The Strength of Texas Caregivers 💪🤲 As I reflect on all those providing care to loved ones across our state, I'm reminded of the tremendous sacrifices and unparalleled strength caregivers embody. The numbers tell the story: 1 in 5 adults in Texas are caregivers 👨👩👧, with over 50% providing care for two or more years. 💫 Caregiving is often an intense responsibility, with 1/3 of caregivers dedicating at least 20 hours a week to this labor of love. 🕰️ Many are women, who balance these duties alongside careers, parenthood, and other roles. 👩💼 Caregivers fill a critical need in our healthcare system, generously supporting loved ones with tasks from household management to personal care. ⛑️ Nearly 1/4th care for someone with dementia, which can require profound patience and empathy. While caregiving can be an isolating journey at times, know you are not alone. Resources are available through Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs), which provides support services for both caregivers and care recipients. This includes respite care, education, training, personal care assistance, transportation, and more.
