Have you heard the news? On Thursday we announced that with so many successes and learnings from our 11-home neighbourhood retrofit pilot, we are ready to take this model to the entire community! We're thrilled to be showcasing the achievements of our pilot and engaging community in a new phase that aims to bring clean energy retrofits to 500 homes across Vernon over the next three years. “We’ve learned so much about what’s possible when we do retrofits as a group, and now we have the support to put those learnings and benefits to use on a much larger scale—and take even greater climate action,” says Amandeep Singh, founder. Are you ready to switch to clean energy and save money? 🏡 Join one of our Saturday open houses, starting Oct. 12. 💻 Join a Tuesday evening online information session.starting Oct. 8 ↪️ Get details and RSVP here: www.homezerocollective.com The more we rally together, the more successful we can be at making it easier and more affordable for families to switch to electric systems that reduce emissions and save money. If we achieve our second-phase goal of reaching 500 homes, Vernon can collectively reduce its emissions by 2,000 tons every year! #VernonBC #NorthOkanagan #Okanagan #solarpower #heatpumps #homezero #cleanBC #retrofits #cleanenergy #CleanBC #vernonbchomes #Foothills #foothillsvernon #easthillvernon

🌞This was a big week for the City of Long Beach🌞 The city council voted to enroll 470 of their municipal accounts into PowerMarket's community solar program! 🎉 This is a monumental shift towards a sustainable future! By switching this portion of their energy demand, they're setting a powerful example for cities nationwide and proving that Californians want community solar options. This initiative not only aligns with Long Beach’s ambitious climate goals but also brings significant savings. The city will save an estimated $35,000 annually, demonstrating that achieving climate goals doesn't have to come with costs. What's even more exciting? Long Beach residents and other SCE customers who don’t have rooftop solar can also enroll in this program. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone in the community can contribute to and benefit from a cleaner, greener future. Check the comments for a link to sign up. Shout out to Jason Kaplan, the incredible Long Beach Sustainability Team, and the dedicated Long Beach City council and Mayor for making this possible. #CommunitySolar #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #LongBeach #PowerMarket #ClimateAction

Meet our Bay Area North Coast satellite office, known affectionately as BANC here at GRID! ☀️ In celebration and recognition of our Bay Area North Coast satellite office (BANC) in its 10th year of work with local communities, Kelsey from our North Coast office shares why the small but mighty BANC team is such a special group of people. Based in the small town of Willits, our BANC team has worked in partnership with Tribes and other rural communities of Northern California for ten years now, connecting people to solar energy technologies at no cost. Though the BANC office may be GRID’s smallest office, the impact that this team generates is mighty. ⚡️ In the coming months, we will be sharing some projects that showcase the tremendous impact created through the BANC team’s hard work in outreach and partnerships with Tribes and local communities, building bridges to clean energy solutions that are beneficial to both people and the planet. 👥 🌎 #solar #solarinstaller #solarenergy #cleanenergy #renewabletech #renewables #renewabletechnology #climate #climatechange #climateaction #environment #environmental #california #northerncali #northernca #norcal #mendocino #redwoods #BANC #bayarea #environmentaljustice

The Dirty Secret Behind "Zero-Net" Homes Brace yourself for a shocking revelation: gas utilities are infiltrating affordable housing to greenwash their image and keep us hooked on fossil fuels. Their latest ploy? Partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build so-called "zero-net" homes that still use gas appliances. But don't be fooled—there's nothing "clean" about burning methane gas in our homes. It's a recipe for: 🏥 Indoor air pollution that harms our health 🌡️ Rising energy bills that strain family budgets 🌍 Climate destruction that hurts vulnerable communities most Affordable housing advocates can fight back by: ❌ Saying no to gas industry partnerships and their false "zero-net" promises ⚡ Embracing efficient, all-electric solutions like heat pumps and induction stoves 💸 Tapping into growing funding streams for low-income electrification projects The truth is, ditching gas is a win-win for people and the planet: All-electric homes are cheaper to build and operate in the long run Efficient electric appliances protect renters from scary gas price spikes The more affordable housing goes all-electric, the more jobs we create! Policymakers need to step up too: 🛑 Ban utilities from charging us to expand gas hookups 📏 Update building codes to make all-electric the default for new homes 🔌 Help more low-income families replace polluting gas appliances with clean electric ones Housing justice and climate action go hand in hand. By rejecting gas industry BS and fighting for all-electric, affordable homes, we can build a safer, more just future for all. So I'm curious - how can housing advocates become electrification heroes? Drop your ideas in the comments! 💡 #AllElectricForAll #FossilFreeHousing #GasLightingGreenwashing #AffordableHousingNotFossilFuels https://lnkd.in/gibPt34n
