People don't always detect my hearing loss. I'm good at using lipreading strategies to make it through conversations in small groups and during one on one conversations. If it's a busy hearing day at work, I get super tired because it takes a lot of mental work to put it all together. If I overdo my socialization, I end up with Listening Fatigue. Then, it's apparent that I have hearing loss because I can't keep up and lag behind on conversation. Hearing breaks are very much needed during busy hearing/understanding times to recharge my battery. #HearingBreaks #HearingLoss #HearingImpaired #HardOfHearing #ListeningFatigue #SocialBattery #HearingLossLIVE

The loss of hearing can impact the emotional well-being of a person during any point of this year, but during the holiday season, these feelings only get worse and often make them feel left out even more. Some tips to enhance holiday experiences with hearing loss are: 1. Find other ways to call home - this should be easier for people with hearing loss since social distancing has become a habit of many 2. Be honest - telling your friends and family about your hearing can make the time together a little easier 3. Choose your position carefully - look for quiet corners for conversations away from music and loud noises 4. In her powerful TED Talk, Nashlea Brogan highlights a crucial issue often overlooked in relationship dynamics: hearing loss. We frequently assume that communication problems in relationships are simply due to what’s being said, but the truth is that undiagnosed and untreated hearing loss might be the silent contributor behind many of these challenges. Brogan emphasizes the importance of shifting our focus from just the words being spoken to acknowledging the impact of hearing loss on our ability to engage fully with those around us. It's not just about hearing—it's about cognitive health, social connectedness, emotional well-being, and even intimacy. 💡 Key Takeaways: -Communication struggles in relationships often stem from untreated hearing loss. Regular hearing tests are essential, especially as we age, to maintain cognitive health and emotional connections. -Early intervention can preserve social relationships and improve overall well-being. -It's time to prioritize hearing health as part of our overall wellness. Together, we can break the stigma and encourage proactive care for better, stronger relationships. #HearingHealth #Relationships #Communication #CognitiveWellness #EarlyIntervention #TEDTalk #EmotionalWellBeing

When people first start being told by their spouse or a close friend that they’re not hearing as well as they should, it impacts them. We often think we're hearing just fine because we hear most things. But when others point out our hearing loss, it can cause us to withdraw and rebel against the idea. We can be stubborn and not take action as soon as we should. However, there's a loving way to talk to people about what we're observing. When you notice a loved one interacting with others and not picking up on what they’re saying, it may be more than just distraction. It could be an issue with their hearing. Here are some tips for approaching the topic gently: Express your concern with empathy. Share specific instances where you’ve noticed their hearing issues. Encourage them to get their hearing checked by an audiologist. Addressing hearing loss early can improve quality of life and maintain strong social connections. #HearingHealth #LovingSupport #EarlyIntervention #HearingLoss #Audiology

The Importance of Addressing Hearing Loss Early Did you know that hearing loss is often noticed by your loved ones before you even realise it yourself? It's not just about turning up the volume. Hearing loss can affect different frequencies, making it challenging to follow conversations, especially in noisy environments. Are you experiencing any of these issues? Asking people to repeat themselves frequently. Struggling to hear in social settings like group gatherings or restaurants. Feeling like others are mumbling. Finding it difficult to hear on the telephone. Ignoring these signs can impact your emotional and social well-being. If you relate to any of these symptoms, it might be time to consult a professional. Early intervention can help maintain a healthy hearing pathway to the brain, ensuring you stay connected to the world around you. #HearingHealth #HearingLoss #Wellbeing

🔊 "I can HEAR people, but I have trouble understanding them!" This is a very common report in our practice. Many people can tell someone is talking but have issues with clarity and understanding exactly what is being said. After a hearing test, we can usually explain why this might be the case! 🔹 Vowels vs. Consonants: The vowel sounds carry the volume of speech, while the consonant sounds provide each word's meaning. For example, cat, hat, sat, and that all have the same vowel sound, but the consonant sound gives each word its meaning and clarity. 🔹 Hearing Loss and Consonants: Consonant sounds are often soft and high-pitched, falling right into the range where many people have hearing loss. This can cause you to hear but struggle with clarity. The good news? Hearing aids can address this concern with ease! If you notice this issue, contact us today to schedule an appointment. 🦻✨ #HearingAids #ClarityMatters #StayConnected #HealthyHearing #BetterHearing #HearInTucson #TucsonAudiologist #OroValleyAudiology #LeadWithLove

Late last week, I got some bummer news on my hearing loss. As a result, I decided to indulge in a three-day weekend of self-care. I'd like to share some of those self-care practices now to inspire you. - Watch a bunch of interviews of Willem Dafoe talking about his acting method on Youtube. My favorite was when he said, "I never think about my face ever. My face does its own thing. I don't work my face. My face is an extension of my body, and my body does its thing." Truly, that inspired me. - Buy a sweater that's ALMOST identical to one you already own, but this one is brown! - Order fancy TV speakers to help with hearing loss, but don't read the specs because why would you do that? Receive speakers. Return them. - Watch a bunch of Twin Peaks to memorialize the late great David Lynch. As a bonus treat, contemplate the meaning of life and death and how climate change is taking everything away from us! - Buy and apply fancy body lotion and then immediately break out in hives all over your body. - Clean your screens. Nothing went wrong with this one-- pure joy. #selfcare
