The loss of hearing can impact the emotional well-being of a person during any point of this year, but during the holiday season, these feelings only get worse and often make them feel left out even more. Some tips to enhance holiday experiences with hearing loss are: 1. Find other ways to call home - this should be easier for people with hearing loss since social distancing has become a habit of many 2. Be honest - telling your friends and family about your hearing can make the time together a little easier 3. Choose your position carefully - look for quiet corners for conversations away from music and loud noises 4. Take a break - don't hesitate to give your mind and ears a rest #happyholidays #familygathering #hearingloss #hearingaidssacramento #thehearingsolution

People don't always detect my hearing loss. I'm good at using lipreading strategies to make it through conversations in small groups and during one on one conversations. If it's a busy hearing day at work, I get super tired because it takes a lot of mental work to put it all together. If I overdo my socialization, I end up with Listening Fatigue. Then, it's apparent that I have hearing loss because I can't keep up and lag behind on conversation. Hearing breaks are very much needed during busy hearing/understanding times to recharge my battery. #HearingBreaks #HearingLoss #HearingImpaired #HardOfHearing #ListeningFatigue #SocialBattery #HearingLossLIVE

HEARING CARE AWARENESS CAN START WITH YOU I oftentimes find myself in conversations with family and friends on how to start the conversation at home or with friends and family if they suspect that someone is struggling with hearing loss. More often now after I joined WSAudiology. Let's be honest - it is not an easy conversation. It requires that we are brave. It requires that we change the narrative. It requires that we have open, supportive conversations about hearing care... and maybe even spend 5 minutes taking an online hearing test to become aware. In this way, we can make hearing health less about "selective hearing" - and more about understanding and support.

We used this picture for last month's Hearing vs Understanding topic but this also applies to the current topic Hearing Loss LIVE! is exploring, Incidental Hearing. I don't have incidental hearing, meaning I don't pick up side conversations. With my severe hearing loss, people need to get my attention, face me and be within 6 feet for me to pick up information properly. If you say something from the side without getting my attention, there's little chance of me understanding you. I might hear your voice or it might not register at all. To make sure I get the information, make sure we are face to face. There's less repeats if you do that so less frustration all the way around. #CommunicationSkills #HearingLossAwareness #Hearing #Understanding #HearingLossLIVE
