Jeanneau Sun Odyssey nominated for SAIL Magazine 2025 Top 10 Best Boats. "Designed by Lombard Yacht Design and Piaton Yacht Design, the Sun Odyssey 350 is a successor to 2013’s Sun Odyssey 349 and aims to bring the line’s notable performance elements to a more cruiser-friendly model. The redesigned hull features chines and an inverted bow for sporty sailing, while twin rudders offer stability to balance it out. Walkaround side decks make movement from the companionway to the transom and up to the bow all possible without a step up. The rig has a square-topped main and no backstay, which accommodates new seating options for the helmsperson at either of the twin helms. Depending on the kind of sailing owners are planning, the keel is deep, shoal, or swing-keel. There’s also an option for electric propulsion. Belowdecks, layouts include three cabins, or two cabins and a workshop. Forward of the L-shaped galley is a dining area that takes up the salon, with the option to add a chart table to port or leave the settee full-sized and have the option to use it as a day bed. Help keep the Reaper sailing...... A once common sight up and down the east coast of Scotland – as here in Wick Harbour around 1905. The Fifie sailing lugger grew out of earlier, local building traditions and, by the time the Museum’s Fifie ‘Reaper’ FR958 was built in 1902/3, had been perfected to take full account of the most advanced thinking in hull strength and speed, the latest in equipment and steam-powered winches and the finest modern materials for nets, buoys and canvas sails. The ‘Reaper’, once an ordinary working boat, is now an extraordinary exemplar of design and technology at the point at which sail gave way to steam power. Looking at this photograph of Fifies crowded in Wick harbour, it is sobering to think that of all the luggers that once thronged the harbours, only a handful now remain, of which the ‘Reaper’ is the largest still sailing with her traditional lug rig. The moment you step on board SAN, you can see this is not your typical 45-metre motor yacht. Actually, it’s more about what you don’t see that sets this boat apart. Standing on the aft deck gazing forward, you get a clear shot all the way through the main saloon to the exterior foredeck lounge. There are no bulkheads blocking the view, nor any of the typical trappings of a main deck layout, like a galley or forward master cabin, to clutter things up.
