Texas has the highest number of uninsured residents in the country. As the Collective coordinates care to address non-medical drivers of health, we know the vital role addressing healthcare coverage plays in the process. This past Monday, the Policy Workgroup invited Emily Brizzolara-Dove from Texas 2036 to present findings from their “Who are the uninsured?” report to explain the details behind uninsured Texans. https://lnkd.in/g3Y3bue2 Some key findings include: 🔹 Of the uninsured population, a majority (56%) are eligible for either ACA subsidies, Medicaid, or CHIP. These groups comprise nearly 2.7 million of the state’s 4.9 million uninsured individuals. 🔹 Among populations eligible for subsidized health insurance through the ACA, many appear to be eligible for subsidies large enough to cover the full premium cost of at least one plan. This report provides a few practical solutions that our community can implement to address this coverage gap. A well articulated argument for change Daniel Finkelstein makes the case that an assisted dying law would not be more risky than the status quo. It would actually reduce many of the risks people already have to live and die with. There is a link with availability of palliative and end of life care. But more importantly the case for assisted dying stands on its own merits because there are many existing risks, shortfalls and circumstances with the current situation that no amount of additional funding will resolve. More funding together with a safe assisted dying law would though lead to us having much more compassionate and dignified care at end of life.

As a dedicated Missourian, dietitian, and advocate, I find the delays in Missouri’s Medicaid application process deeply troubling. This article highlights the challenges some of our neighbors are encountering. Thank you, Missouri Foundation for Health for sharing. Key takeaways on Missouri’s Medicaid application delays: - Medicaid applications for low-income Americans are required to be reviewed within 45 days. - In Missouri, the most recent federal data from February shows 72% of applications took more than 45 days to process — the worst in the country that month. That’s up from 58% in January. - Nationwide, most applications were processed within 24 hours last year. - Long processing times can cause low-income patients and those with disabilities to forego medical care and prescriptions. Patients have told The Independent they are delaying medical care during pregnancy because they can’t get enrolled in Medicaid. - One of those programs competing for the Department of Social Services’ resources is food stamps: A federal court last month ruled Missourians were being illegally denied food aid by the state, in part due to hours-long call center wait times. Link to that article is here: https://lnkd.in/gbZjT5mF - The call center wait time issues seem to cut across all of DSS’ programs. Addressing the delays in Missouri’s Medicaid application process is crucial for the well-being of our community. By understanding the impact of these extended processing times and the challenges they create, we can advocate for necessary changes. #MissouriMedicaid #HealthcareAccess #HealthcareAdvocacy #HealthEquity #MissouriHealth

Update from the Texas Counseling Association (if you're a member of TCA, you'll receive this info in your inbox. If you're not a member and you're an LPC or LPC Associate in Texas, you really should join and support our organization): Update on Interstate Counseling Compact Legislation TCA is working diligently to lay the groundwork for passage of the Interstate Counseling Compact legislation in 2025. The House Defense and Veterans’ Affairs Committee met on August 21, 2024 to discuss “Professional License Portability for Military and Spouses.” TCA submitted written testimony to the committee advocating for the passage of the Compact as a tool to assist military service members and their family members, whether they are counselors seeking practice privileges in Texas, or clients wishing to retain their counselor when they are transferred. A representative of the Compact Coalition, which TCA is a member of, testified at the hearing, which was held in San Antonio. The Senate Health and Human Services Committee met on September 18, 2024 to discuss: Access to Health Care - Evaluate current access to primary and mental health care. Examine whether regulatory and licensing flexibilities could improve access to care, particularly in medically underserved areas of Texas. Diane Smedley testified on behalf of TCA and advocated for the Compact along with allowing LPC-Associates to serve clients on Medicaid. View Diane’s testimony here (appx. 9:34:24). In addition, we are meeting with key offices to make them aware of the legislation and give them the opportunity to ask questions and get comfortable with Texas joining the Compact. ------

Did you know 97% of teachers and 93% of afterschool professionals agree that grief can have an adverse impact on a child’s behavior? Even more agree that grief can negatively impact a child’s learning. To better understand the impact grief has on children, the New York Life Insurance Company Foundation conducted a series of polling initiatives, resulting in the 2024 State of Grief Report. The report reveals a growing need for holistic bereavement support in workplaces, schools, and communities. Thank you New York Life Insurance Company Foundation for shining a light on this critical public health issue. We all know health insurance is expensive. It's interesting to see it broken down into how many hours it would take to pay for an insurance premium. The highest paid employee spends just over 2 hours of their salary to pay for monthly insurance premiums, whereas, the lowest paid employee spends almost 10 hours of their pay every month for insurance premiums. This may leave little to no money left for copays and deductibles. While we need insurance, it's an expense. Expenses can be eliminated. Healthcare cannot. Local, private advanced high value direct primary care like SALTA Direct Primary Care is the foundation to helping the lowest paid worker get the care needed without copays & deductibles with 24/7 access anytime, anywhere. The highest paid workers like business owners and executives can get the same great 24/7 access without hidden fees while improving the health & productivity of their workforce AND lowering overall costs. #salta #directprimarycare #pricetransparency #nohiddenfees #seeking #care #without #barriers #everyonewins
The lowest-wage employees would have to work nearly 10 hours to pay their monthly premiums, more than 4 times that of the highest-paid employees

When someone needs assistance due to a long-term care event, families are often the first line of defense, and that includes stepchildren. The benefit of purchasing long-term care insurance isn't just the financial assistance it provides; it's also the Care Coordination. Care Coordination means that there are nurses and other experienced staff available to help assess and facilitate the proper care. While it's challenging enough to support a loved one who needs care, having an LTC policy in place gives families precious breathing room and support. If you would like to see what you or your loved one's options are for Long-Term Care Insurance, please contact me to see what's possible. #cjbinsurance #aginginplace #futureplanning #LTCI #longtermcare #insurance #activeseniors #agingawareness #agingpopulation #agingwell #agingwithgrace #alzheimer #assistedliving #assistedlivinglocators #assistedlivingsf #caregiversupport #caretransitions #community #dementia #dischargeplanning #eldercare #eldercareawareness #elderlycare #elderlyrights #families #goldenyears #healthyaging #independentliving #instituteonaging #ioa #memorycare #rehab #senioractivities #senioradvocacy #seniorcare #seniorcommunity #seniorhealth #seniorlifestyle #seniorliving #seniors #seniorsupport #seniorwellness #skillednursing #snf #takingcareofourseniors
