🪫 Exciting Battery Energy Storage project nearing completion in Victoria. Most excitingly the project is being delivered by Australian company Tilt Renewables in the Latrobe Valley in partnership with Fluence and AusNet. 🔋 As projects like these roll out across the country, imagine if the batteries included local content, or better were manufactured right here in Australia. Australia is the only country in the world which has all the minerals required to make batteries, inverters, and relevant components. With our skilled workforce, we can turn this into a niche battery market, growing from a ‘dig and ship’ approach to a ‘mine and make’ nation - mining and refining lithium and other minerals, then manufacturing batteries onshore. 💥 This could create 44,000 jobs and $57 billion in GDP in 2035. My comment to the Billion dollar investment in solar panel manufacturing today - well intended - but just for political spin - with little real long term benefits... That train has left the station. Chinese dominance in solar panels is unstoppable. Even Tindo with the local manufacturing claim uses Chinese cells and other parts from there. Should be called local assembly. The Chinese now lead in research & volume - its like using a tiny kayak to be an iron ore transport ship. Well intended, but choosing the wrong industry. Look at Europe - one solar manufacturer after another closing - they can not compete with the automated mega factory process in China. https://lnkd.in/gyUKJ_5q. and https://lnkd.in/gyD9xwAH The solution: https://lnkd.in/gvSTWdbe - all the other fluff is just warm fuzzy political spin. Even mighty LG pulled up the white flag when it came to solar panel manufacturing - put the money in solar product recycling or local battery storage in cities - so we can store the renewable energy oversupply in the middle of the day. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft.
