☀️ We’re proud to share that Lena Olszewska, a senior associate at IDinsight and one of our researchers, was featured in SRM360's latest newsletter discussing our research into solar radiation management (SRM)! This year marked our first deep dive into SRM, and our findings highlight the importance of inclusive governance frameworks and philanthropic support to address gaps in public engagement, capacity building, and international collaboration—especially in low- and middle-income countries. 📰 Read the full feature to learn how philanthropy can play a pivotal role in shaping informed, equitable decisions for SRM: https://lnkd.in/gKzebNGK 🔍 For a deeper look at our findings, check out our report on SRM governance: https://lnkd.in/gsQtzHDu #ClimateAction #SRM #ClimatePhilanthropy

We make high-impact climate giving easier, for everyone.
About us
Giving Green makes high-impact climate giving easier, for everyone. We perform rigorous research and recommend cost-effective climate initiatives, so you can give with confidence. In response to climate change, foundations, individuals, governments, and businesses are spending billions of dollars to tackle the crisis. But where should they put those resources? What are the most cost-effective, data-backed projects that are having a real impact in the climate fight? Giving Green exists to answer this question. We evaluate climate initiatives across different geographies, sectors, and approaches—from national charities to carbon removal projects to impact investment mechanisms—using rigorous impact evaluation methods. We then make expert recommendations that are scientific, actionable, and transparent. Interested in elevating your climate action? We'd love to help you help the planet. Get in touch at givinggreen@idinsight.org. What do you get when you combine thousands of hours of climate donation research with an audience of 150 people in the Netherlands? 🎊 🎊 🎊 Confetti 🎊 🎊 🎊 At our Dutch partner Doneer Effectief's year-end event, a jury of academics analyzed reports on high-impact charities from evaluators like Giving Green and unveiled top charities in three categories. Congratulations to Giving Green-recommended Top Nonprofits Clean Air Task Force and Industrious Labs for being nominated, and to The Good Food Institute for winning the climate category. Livestock production is responsible for at least 10% of global emissions. We think the Good Food Institute's work to make alternative proteins as delicious and affordable as meat could reduce meat consumption and help people follow a more climate-friendly diet. Read more on why your donations to the Good Food Institute can help stimulate systemic change that reduces food system emissions on a global scale: https://lnkd.in/eka6mzxi

Check out the latest video from Paul Smeets examining whether it's a good idea to spend the night on a train to combat climate change, featuring Julian Kölbel! The two met up in Amsterdam to continue their conversation about the impact of individual climate action vs. donating to highly effective climate nonprofits—a discussion our founder, Dr. Daniel Stein, participated in on the Innovations in Sustainable Finance podcast. 🎧 Interested in hearing the full conversation? Spending the Night on a Train to Combat Climate Change: A Good Idea? Some of you had critical feedback on my recent video, "Should I really fly less to fight climate change?" In that video, I discussed scientific evidence about which personal actions can have the greatest impact. The findings? While reducing flights, going car-free, or eating less meat all help, donating effectively to outstanding climate charities can create an even larger positive impact. Among the commenters was Julian Kölbel, Professor of Finance at the University of St.Gallen. Intrigued by his initial skepticism, I invited Julian to join me in Amsterdam. We dug deeper into the data and perspectives behind these findings. Why was he initially unconvinced, and what does he think now, after exploring the evidence more thoroughly? ▶️ Check out the video here 🎥 https://lnkd.in/eTNm6aHh Curious to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment below. P.S. If you watch till the end, there’s a little surprise.

❓ What's the most effective action an individual can take to address climate change? Cutting back on meat? Flying less? 💡 The answer is complicated, but the most important thing is to approach climate action at a systemic level. Our founder, Dr. Daniel Stein, recently joined Paul Smeets on the Innovations in Sustainable Finance podcast, hosted by Julian Kölbel, for a nuanced discussion about approaches to affecting systems change, including donating to effective climate nonprofits. Have a listen for a digestible and informative look at why smart donations can help you connect your individual action with systems change. Interested in learning more? Today, we released a report, "How and Why We Think About Systems Change as a Climate Funder," that highlights: 🌎 How systems change strategies "change the rules of the game". 💪 Why climate philanthropy is uniquely positioned to fund catalytic interventions like policy change, technology innovation, and market shaping. 🤓 Insights from past successes, such as solar photovoltaics and the Inflation Reduction Act. 🎧 Listen to the podcast: https://lnkd.in/e8F8eSUi 📘 Read the report: https://lnkd.in/eD9caSHE #climatephilanthropy #climateaction #systemschange #effectivegiving

A note to our community from Giving Green founder and executive director, Dr. Daniel Stein, a week after the US election: "In light of the US election results, we know many are concerned about what this means for the future of our climate. There is no denying that we have a tough four years ahead of us. At Giving Green, our work is rooted in the big picture. We understand that the road to climate mitigation and decarbonization is a long one with many ups and downs. In the face of setbacks, we will stay focused and keep moving in the right direction. We want to reassure our community that we have long been preparing for this moment. Our research and recommendations are guided by a long-term, global strategy that accounts for multiple levers of systems change. This includes policy—on an international, state, and federal level—as well as technology development, market shaping, building social license, and more. We have our work cut out for us, but we are up to the challenge. As are our Top Nonprofits, Giving Green Fund grantees, and the rest of the climate movement." 🔍 Read the full statement here, plus thoughts from some of our Top Nonprofits, Clean Air Task Force, The Good Food Institute, and Industrious Labs: https://lnkd.in/egjJTni7 ⚡ More from Clean Air Task Force here: https://lnkd.in/gaW8B9zq 🍔 More from The Good Food Institute in AgFunderNews here: https://lnkd.in/efiKBti7 #climateaction #climatephilanthropy
