After the Emancipation, Black Landowners acquired land and "passed" down the rights to the land to their heir as a means to building generational wealth. Essentially, this was not done through a formal judicial process and, today, we identify this as Heirs' Property (HP). HP is not only the leading cause of Black land loss but is also for other low-wealth groups such as Appalachian landowners. Come with us down memory lane and listen to some historical #lowcountry community members who've experienced the struggle with having Heirs' Property. https://lnkd.in/ecnHju_J #heirsproperty #landjustice

Berkeley, California votes to return sacred Native land to Ohlone tribe A San Francisco Bay Area parking lot that sits on top of a sacred tribal shell mound has been returned to the Ohlone people by the Berkeley City Council after a settlement with developers who own the land. The 2.2-acre site is part of the first human settlement on the San Francisco Bay, according to representatives of the Ohlone people, whose ancestors established a village in the area some 5,700 years ago. "This is a historic step toward righting past wrongs and embracing a future that honors the diverse history of the entire region," Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin said. The deal ends a years-long battle over the future of the site, after the owners sued the city for blocking a planned mixed-use development of apartments and retail shops. "This is not only the most challenging urban sacred site victory in California's history, it's also among the most culturally significant," Corrina Gould, a tribal leader and co-founder of the Sogorea land trust, said. Spanish colonizers removed the people who lived at the West Berkeley site from their villages and forced them into labor at local missions, according to city officials. White settlers took over the land in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and razed the mound for shells to line roadbeds. Tribal leaders have proposed transforming the parking lot into an open space area with an educational center and a 40-foot mound with a path that spirals to the top. 🤹♀️It's a grand and unprecedented time; the sacred lands of our forgotten, expanded Humanity are being restored to their original properties. An underlying multi-dimensional structural reality that reveals itself and intensifies exponentially to find its rightful place in all planes, space-time and dimensions of existence. The dynamic setting in motion of the unprecedented redeployment of original memories, forged by innate inheritance. Are you ready to restore the completeness of the essence of your true Nature, beyond the falsified, fabricated, hidden and diverted information of the ancient genesis of the world of worlds, in the service of the luminous evolutionary expansion of being alive and vibrant within the nurturing Mother Earth Planet and beyond? 😊 #selfempowerment #expansion #humanity #peace #potentiel #history

OPINION: Public lands are an asset https://lnkd.in/gvY8-rik Public lands are an especially American legacy... These lands are part of the character and history of those who live here, and few would easily give them up. Still, there is also another legacy that continues to this day that runs contrary to all that. Privatizing the public domain has been on the to-do list of robber-barons and others for over 100 years.
