It was an inspiring week at the African Food Systems Forum 2024 (AFSForum2024) in Kigali, Rwanda. AFSForum2024, the world’s leading forum on agriculture and food systems, aims to unite stakeholders to take practical actions and exchange insights. Together, we are working to build productive, nutritious, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable African food systems that will accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The forum offered a significant opportunity for our team at African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) to contribute to and gain insights from collaborative efforts addressing challenges and opportunities within African food systems. Our side event sessions covered: - Policy frameworks empowering women in agrifood systems - Enhancing the political economy of women’s labour - Strategies to improve women's agency and governance in agrifood systems - Knowledge sharing and scaling up of best practices.
