Herbal Snapshot - Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rhizome that is related to ginger. And like ginger, this lovely is chock full of healthy goodness. Turmeric is perhaps best known for its anti-inflammatory abilities. Although, many don't know that turmeric is best when used over a long period of time and is not a "quick fix." It also helps with pain management and arthritis. And, as you may have guessed from the orange color, it is supportive of the eyes. Personally, I have found that turmeric is very helpful in managing my severe asthma. This is mainly due to the anti-inflammatory actions. Note: To make turmeric more bioavailable, it needs to be taken with something "hot," such as black pepper (preferred) or ginger, as well as ghee or coconut oil. Make Golden Milk: Mix ground turmeric with black pepper, cinnamon, and ginger. This is your base. You can also add sweetener, if desired. Heat 1 c. of non-dairy milk, and add 1-2 tsp of the golden milk mix. Add in a Tbsp of ghee or coconut oil, blending well. Pro-tip: Your golden milk mix also goes well in the basket of your coffee maker to brew with your daily coffee. (This is my personal favorite). #herbalsnapshot #herbalist #herbaleducation #healingherbs #herbalism #foodismedicine #healthyliving #turmeric #curcumalonga

Ever since I can remember, I've had a fondness for herbal teas. Growing up, my mother would brew some great concoctions whenever someone in the family had a cough or the sniffles. This childhood habit stayed with me, and as I transitioned from being a doctor to founding Spice Basket, I found myself returning to these natural remedies. Now with the seasons changing, it’s that time of year when colds and flu are lurking around every corner. As both a doctor and the founder of Spice Basket, I’ve found that the right teas, made with powerful Indian spices, can be a natural and effective way to stay healthy. Here are my top 5 tea recommendations to help you combat the seasonal sniffles: 1. Ginger Tea: Ginger reduces inflammation and can help alleviate a sore throat and nasal congestion, making it easier to breathe. 2. Black Pepper Tea: Black pepper's expectorant properties help break up mucus in the respiratory tract, easing chest congestion and sinus issues. 3. Cinnamon Tea: Cinnamon has antiviral properties that can fight the flu virus, and it also helps to soothe a scratchy throat and reduce coughing. 4. Turmeric Tea: Turmeric's anti-inflammatory effects can reduce sinus swelling and discomfort, while its antimicrobial properties help fight infections. 5. Cardamom Tea: Cardamom aids in relieving bronchial congestion and can help ease symptoms of bronchitis and asthma by improving airflow to the lungs. Incorporating these teas into your daily routine can be a delicious and natural way to stay healthy during the changing seasons. Stay warm, stay healthy, and enjoy the benefits of these amazing spices! #HealthAndWellness #NaturalRemedies #TeaTime #SeasonalHealth #SpiceBasket

🌿 Remember the magic of childhood remedies? When I was young, every time a cold or cough came knocking, my mom had the perfect solution: a hot herbal drink made with spices. A day or two of sipping her concoction, and I’d feel like myself again. Fast forward to today, life has gotten busier—but that wisdom still sticks. I’ve kept her tradition alive, brewing the same herbal remedy when the sniffles hit. And here’s the good news: I’ve made it even easier by preparing a ready-to-brew version of this concoction. It works wonders for me, and maybe it will for you too! Here’s why natural remedies like this are worth a try: ✔️ Hydration: Herbal drinks soothe your throat and keep you hydrated. ✔️ Anti-inflammatory properties: Ingredients like turmeric, ginger, and tulsi have healing effects. ✔️ Herbal Drinks: Shunti Dhaniya Tisane, Shunti Turmeric Tisane and Tulsi Tisane be effective ✔️ Relaxation: The warmth and aroma can calm you while your body recovers. These remedies might not cure the common cold, but they can help ease the journey. If your symptoms persist or worsen, always consult a doctor. 💡 Stay well and sip smart! #NaturalRemedies #HealthTips #ColdRelief
