Reel big ideas. Reel big impact. We've just launched this year’s summer Fishing Rules campaign. And while we’re no stranger to Fisheries NZ and this mahi, we're excited to cast some fresh ideas for this summer. Connecting the full power of our creative and media offerings, we loved telling this story. Refreshing our approach was just a small part. We needed to create a habit. The idea that checking for updates is part of your routine, every time. So, we did exactly that – showcasing the app as the centrepiece of every fishing toolkit. Highlighting how the app supports safe fishing and ensuring kaimoana for our mokopuna. From fishing shops, your local boat ramp, and even the Warehouse’s website, you’ll find it hard to miss our latest Fisheries NZ summer campaign. We’re excited to see our mahi tackle this summer’s fishing season! #Aotearoa #NZBusiness #Marketing

We've now completed (finally) a brilliant and fully featured fishing app called Fishbuddy by Fiskher. It's a further development of the popular Fiskher app, which has helped hundreds of thousands of fishermen reel in more and bigger fish, find the best fishing spots easier, and record them in their logbooks. The Fishbuddy by Fiskher app is built on the same idea, but we realized that our maps had to be better than most, (so we made them ourselves) the fish registration had to be done in seconds (who wants to look on a black screen when fishing?) and the number of fishing spots in freshwater had to be like in the sea - everywhere you turn. So we went crazy with AI and satellite technology and added more than 350K spots with our new Spots feature in lakes and rivers. If you are like my friends, who are fed up with bad fishing apps, which most of them do the same, (solunar calendar + show where others have caught their fish) it might be time to try a different breed of an app. It was built by the smartest IT guys (high five to you, math wizard Trond Svandal), the best map experts, and not least a few dozen of Europe's best anglers. Yes, you know, people like Sean Wit, Jørgen Larsson, Freddy Harbort, Pelle Klippinge, Bilal Saab, Frank Fisker, Henrik Breinholdt, Robert Westin, Marcus Lundgren, Frans Van Der Putte and Endre Hopland. To name a few. But, neither of the two apps would have existed without two intrepid men, who dared to believe in a wild idea, resulting in a completely new fishing app. It’s my boss, Trond Are Gjone (who has to survive a lot of fishing talk at lunch), and Asgeir Alvestad. The latter helped me as a teenager into the fishing industry, and then into Fiskher in 2019. He is my long-time friend, mentor, and fishing buddy, a living sport fishing encyclopedia and angling genius. If you don't understand what I'm trying to say, just scroll on! But, if you've figured it out, go to where you get your apps and download Fishbuddy today. Let's meet in the feed!

Fishbuddy´s new «Spots" let you search less and fish more! Spots from the Fishbuddy by Fiskher app is a brand new feature that gives anglers a new dimension in their search for good fishing spots. Now you can spend less time searching - and more time fishing. We've just launched more than 500,000 of these spots across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. What is it? To create Spots, we've used artificial intelligence and our already popular satellite depth maps in freshwater. With map wizard Trond Svandal and our knowledge of where fish spend their time in the lakes, we have trained our super machines to pick out good spots. Such as peaks and slopes. What they are not Spots aren't a replacement for our handmade fishing spots/fields. These are created by the best anglers and are probably the best and most accurate recommendations in any fishing app in the world today. Spots are not species-specific. However, what they lack in quality, they make up for in quantity. And together they are dynamite! In a lake (or ten) near you! The reason we have so many fishing spots is precisely because they should be accessible to just about every freshwater angler. Use Spots as a starting point for planning a fishing trip in unfamiliar waters, when you don't have a sonar or a good chart. Remember - it's not just where the dot is located - but the area around it that is the actual fishing spot. Best wishes with «Spots» and the BIG fishes! #fishing #ai

THE FUTURE IS ROPELESS: The past few days, AWI senior policy consultant Kate O’Connell attended the North America Seafood Expo in Boston, Massachusetts—and promoted the use of ropeless fishing gear via a mobile billboard. Ropeless fishing gear, also known as pop-up or on-demand fishing gear, is a viable solution to traditional vertical buoy lines, which entangle whales. Ropeless systems use a remote-controlled cage, inflatable lift-bag, or spool of rope that is stowed on the seafloor, rather than suspended in the water column. When lobster or crab fishers wish to retrieve their traps, an acoustic signal is sent to the sea floor, and the trap is brought to the surface for collection. Because ropeless systems replace traditional vertical fishing lines, they eliminate the danger that whales will become entangled in the gear. While ropeless fishing isn’t yet commercially widespread, you can play an important role in its adoption by: 🔹 Letting your supermarket and/or seafood retailer know that you would like their suppliers to transition to ropeless fishing gear in the near future. 🔹 Sharing this post with family and friends to help educate others about the need for ropeless fishing systems. 🔹 Visiting TheFutureIsRopeless.org to learn more. 📷: AWI

𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 #𝗕𝗟𝗨𝗘 𝗔𝗣𝗣 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛 𝗔𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗡 #𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦 Abalobi provides a real-time marketplace for fishers to sell their catch, while also monitoring fish populations, and the tech could go global The 59-year-old Wilfred Poggenpoel is a fisher from Lambert’s Bay, a picturesque town 170 miles north of Cape Town that’s popular with surfers and home to 17,000 breeding pairs of Cape gannets. Five years ago, he made the decision to join a virtual marketplace called Abalobi, which enables fishers such as him to sell their catch directly to restaurants, retailers and consumers using a custom-built app. “I get a better price and I can sell more species now,” he says. “I’ve bought a 60-horsepower motor that I’d never have been able to afford before. I’ve bought a second boat.” He joined, he says, because he didn’t want to spend all day walking around town in the sun trying to sell fish. “My quality of life has improved. I’ve even been able to help some old people in the community.” Abalobi (which means fisher in isiXhosa, one of the official languages of South Africa) is a tech nonprofit that works to help the small-scale fishers who make up the bulk of the South African fishing industry but are traditionally excluded from it financially. Have you ever gone fishing as a kid? I’m not talking about using fancy, expensive gear. No, I’m talking about the good old days, where we’d make our own fishing rods from scratch. It was a simple setup but filled with adventure! Here’s how it went: A group of friends and I would head out into the jungle, looking for the perfect bamboo trees. We’d cut long, sturdy bamboo sticks, then head to the store to buy the cheapest fishing string we could find. But not just any string – it had to be strong enough to handle the pull of a fish! We’d also buy a few fishing hooks, just a few cents apiece. Then, we’d tie the string to one end of the bamboo and a hook to the other. For a float, we’d craft a little piece of wood to tie midway on the string. And just like that, our homemade fishing rods were ready to go! But hold on, we needed bait – and what better than worms? We knew just the spots to dig. It was a bit messy, but we’d scoop up those earthworms, toss them into a container, and set off for the pond we had scoped out earlier. Then came the real test – patience. We’d pierce the worm on the hook, toss the line into the pond, and wait. Sometimes for hours. If you were lucky, the fish were not. But most of the time, I think the fish were smarter than us. On a good day, we’d catch a big one and jump with excitement. Other days, we’d catch tiny fish and laugh it off. And once, I even caught an eel! My friends had a field day teasing me about it! Why am I sharing this memory now? It makes me wonder if today’s kids are missing out on these countryside experiences. With modern entertainment like video games taking over, I can’t help but be curious. Now, I’m not here to bash gaming – I know little about it – but I do wonder if our children today are missing a slice of the joy we had growing up in the simplicity of village life. I’ll leave the judgment up to you. What do you think? Are today’s kids better off, or are they missing something special?
