The Swedish fashion brand Gina Tricot is in a bit of a PR pickle. This week the Swedish television network, SVT, revealed that the brand's campaign "Gina Tricot Forest", set to "increase biodiversity and reduce emissions" involved exactly 503 trees 🌳 and 2 bee hives 🐝 in a plot the size of 6 tennis courts. 🙄 The story gets worse : the influencer who fronted the campaign received several million kronor for fronting the campaign whilst the company spent just over 100 000 kronor on the trees and the 2 beehives. The company, and the influencer are now being accused of greenwashing. And rightly so. If your brand is defined as the perceptions, feelings and associations people have about your company, this is a branding nightmare both for Gina Tricot and for the influencer. Just as positive associations attract customers, investors and employees, this kind of negative publicity does the exact opposite. It will be interesting to see what these two players decide to do to redeem trust. Perhaps the influencer will plant her own forest with the millions she received? What could Gina Tricot do to redeem itself? The moral of the story? Authenticity matters. Values matter. #brandstories #trustoverlove #brandstrategy

Beyond chuffed that Hannah Phang and I have been named in The Vogue Business 100 Innovators list in the Sustainability Thought Leaders category alongside the co-founders of VEJA, Mara Hoffman and many brilliant others. 🤯 Building a new business that focuses on building better, more impactful ways to work on sustainability challenges has been the most fun, exhilarating and challenging endeavour. Our hunch has always been that to build the next world, we need to change how we work. With brands and organisations facing highly fragmented sustainability challenges as well as a myriad of ever-changing issues to address, it's impossible for the same team - whether that's an in-house team or an agency/consultancy - to solve it all. That's why we wanted to build a new model for working on the world's most pressing issues. Two years into our journey, we are now building entirely bespoke teams to answer sustainability briefs and enabling our clients to scale their teams and gather expert insight, on-demand. A big thank you to our brilliant clients, talent network and partners. And also to Bella Webb and the team for spotting that how we organise sustainability work is also a sustainability solution.
We are very proud to announce we have been included in the Vogue Business 100 Innovators List for 2024! The Innovators list spotlights the people who are pioneering new ideas and ways of working, having an outsized impact, and changing the way we view the future. It’s a real honour to have been recognised alongside incredible leaders, founders and activists in the Sustainability Thought Leaders category. We created The Now Work to help foster a better future of work for the sustainability experts dedicated to creating change. Our aim is to re-imagine ways of organising work that better work for our lives today and that simultaneously can deliver the leaps in creativity and innovation needed to build the next world. We are so grateful to be recognised for our work and vision. You can access the full list of innovators here: https://lnkd.in/gfsj9v35 And if you’d like to learn more about The Now Work, visit www.thenowwork.com Congratulations to all the other amazing people and companies who have been listed, including: SEBASTIEN KOPP & François-Ghislain Morillion - VEJA; Faith Robinson - Global Fashion Agenda; Brittany Sierra - Sustainable Fashion Forum; Shruti Singh 🌏 - Fashion Revolution India; Brontie Maria Ansell - Faith In Nature; Cecilie Thorsmark - Copenhagen Fashion Week; Anna Foster; Yuly Fuentes-Medel Ph.D.; Charlie Smith - Loewe; Marc Elrick - Future Beauty Labs; Dr Simon Jackson - Davines Group | Certified B Corp; Aila Morin - MERIT; Shana Randhava - The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.; Nanette Wong - Kendo Brands, Inc., Grace Forrest; RAISEfashion; Aurora James; Fashion UK; Mina White; Hilary Xherimeja. & Thank you to Bella Webb and the whole team at Vogue. #Sustainability #Innovation #FutureOfWork #VB100 #VogueBusiness100 #SustainabilityLeaders #TheNowWork

The fast fashion industry is in the hot seat again! This time it’s Swedish fashion giant Gina Tricot. The deceit is real: - the messaging - "Gina Tricot Forest" - not only does the company not own a forest at all but the area they bought trees for is the size of a large garden (6 tennis courts) - the extra 10 kr consumers paid ontop of their purchase sponsored exactly 2 bee hives (the sponsorship has now run out) But besides the obvious, it irks me that the company paid Bianca a minimum of 5 000 000 kronor (it's speculated that she could've received 10 million even for this) and only 100 000 kronor on trees (2% of Bianca's fee). Will she now use her money to buy even MORE clothing she doesn't need? 😳 And how many more garments were purchased because of the campaign? What else could Gina Tricot have been able to spend their money on that actually made a positive impact? We desperately and urgently need a discussion on "what is enough"? For the sake of our children and the sake of our planet. #greenwashing #deceit #money

They're more than just a fashion label ⏤ they're an advocacy brand! 🗣️ And why did they choose to get People and Planet First verified? "Anyone can claim to be sustainable or socially responsible, but we wanted to ensure there was no doubt about our impact... displaying these badges prominently on our website and communications consolidates that we are doing what we say we are. It also takes the burden off customers to verify our claims and pushes us as a business to continually improve." Laura's proof that you can build a thriving business while driving real social change.
