As we observe the 16 days of Activism agaisnt GBV, it is my wish to hear a more inclusive dialogue around domestic violence that deliberately discusses the incidents of psychological, emotional and financial abusive women(based on statistics) who are charged with raising children alone. may we consider the statistics of child support cases both at the magistrates court and those that emanate from divorce proceedings. The last census reported a high percentage of households led by women who in most cases are default custodians of children. The affiliation proceedings in the magistrates courts are not prioritized and are a victim of lack of resources encountered from initial service of notices to enforcement of non compliance with maintenance orders. there is one case which was processed after 8 years ! We need a special court, we need firm measures against defaulters as this would be a means to alleviate the pressure put on custodians of children and also to support the implementation of the children's act equitably

Undisciplined children become increasingly undisciplined youths who are acting in youth crime. Society has lost its ways of raising a child due to the innovation in the system. The system has significantly increased enabling children's behaviour and disempowering the parents to discipline their children based on the child's rights. But society is losing the moral of child upbringing. Despite what the government does, youth will continue to escalate because the parents have no power to correct their child's behaviour at a young age. Today society will deeply discipline as physical abuse. Encouragingly, society needs to reflect and see what has changed and why youth crimes are significantly increasing. Once this initiative is taken, the solution can be found.

The disregard of child protection issues in this "Pact for the Future" makes it seriously flawed! Furthermore, it is incorrect to argue or assume that children fall within the narrative of "future generations" that seems to only mention young people. All civil societies in the child protection and care sector ought to demand this recognition! Considering that children suffer the greatest burden of the world's problems, it is regrettable that in this day and age, we chose to ignore them. We can't talk of the future and fail to mention our intention to address violence against children in this important document. #2024UNCSC

But if you are able to access the requisite date (big IF in the states where I work) how do you do enough positive good with your interventions to outweigh the negative outcomes that will result from the additional labeling and stigmatization? Also, are the interventions voluntary or required and, if required, under which legal mechanism?

🚨 Child Protection Stops When Child Contact Starts. 🚨 Too often, child contact proceedings in Scotland overlook the risks posed to mothers and children who have separated themselves from their abuser. Decisions are being made in courts and Children’s Hearings that put women and children in harm’s way. Why? ⚖️ There’s a gap between criminal and civil courts, leaving domestic abuse survivors vulnerable. 📝 Social work and police reports often fail to accurately reflect the trauma and risks that abuse brings, overlooking what should be crucial protections. 🌍There’s a bias towards granting child contact to both parents, even when it goes against research and human rights standards under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This system is dangerous for survivors of domestic abuse, forcing them into ongoing trauma instead of ensuring safety and support. Scotland must do better. It’s time to reform the approach to child contact to prioritise the safety and rights of women and children. #StillNotSafe #16Days #ChildSafetyFirst #DomesticAbuseReform What do you think? 💜
