The VICS were pleased to see our Optimal Care Summits program in the spotlight last month, at the launch of the Australian Comprehensive Cancer Network (ACCN). The ACCN aims to address disparities in cancer outcomes by connecting #cancer services across the country, fostering collaboration, sharing expertise, and supporting coordinated and equitable access to care.  At the network’s launch in late May, Prof. Grant McArthur AO (CEO of the VCCC Alliance) highlighted successful examples from Victoria of coordinated initiatives to improve quality and equity of #CancerCare. These included the VICS Optimal Care Summits – strategic consultations with multidisciplinary stakeholders from across the state to identify unwarranted variations in cancer care and outcomes, and to prioritise actions to address them. Johor has the highest incidence of cancer in Malaysia, with 16,434 new cases reported between 2012 and 2016, most detected at late stages. The latest National Cancer Registry Report (2017-2021) reveals a troubling 65.3% of cancer cases nationwide are diagnosed at advanced stages 3 or 4, highlighting the urgency for better awareness, early detection, and healthcare access. In response, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) and the Health Ministry have launched a transformative three-year plan to combat the rising cases in Johor. This initiative focuses on empowering communities with preventive tools, improving diagnostic services, and supporting families affected by cancer. We invite health professionals to join us in this initiative, which includes general practice-led quality improvement interventions to increase bowel screening participation. Through our collaboration with the Elekta Foundation, we are strengthening Rwanda’s cancer care infrastructure, making it possible for women to receive screening, early detection, and treatment, even in the most remote areas. 🧑🏾🔬 Our approach focuses on #empowering women with knowledge and ensuring that cancer screening becomes a routine, accessible part of #healthcare for all. In #Rwanda, we support initiatives to combat both breast and cervical cancers, reaching thousands of women through primary healthcare centers and outreaches. 🤝 Join us this October in advocating for early #detection, increased access to care, and a future where breast cancer is no longer a death sentence. 🎀 Together, we can defeat breast cancer.

Following on from our productive AGM in Zagreb, the election of our new Board and five new member organisations joining Lung Cancer Europe (LUCE), we would like to restate our mission. We are the voice of people living with lung cancer and their families at European level. We provide a Europe-wide platform for lung cancer patient advocacy associations and networks. We support the establishment of national lung cancer patient groups in those European countries where such groups do not yet exist. As the voice of Europeans impacted by or at risk of lung cancer, we collaborate with stakeholders to destigmatise the disease and ensure that everyone achieves the best possible outcomes. We empower members to ensure strong and effective lung cancer patient advocacy across Europe. Our vision is that all Europeans impacted by or at risk of lung cancer will have access to optimal care so that they have the best possible outcomes and quality of life.
