#press 🔌Charging your #car in the garage instead of at a #fastcharging station is practical, but inefficient. This is because the charging process takes significantly longer and sometimes results in high charging losses. Bidirectional blocking transistors made of gallium nitride (GaN) promise a remedy here. 🚗 Researchers at #FraunhoferIZM and Technische Universität Berlin are testing the use of these components with the support of Delta Electronics, BIT GmbH and Infineon Technologies in the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung funded EnerConnect project. This is a really critical demonstration of the need to create effective full manufacturing chains for the creation of game changing power solutions that take full advantage of the higher switching speeds possible with Compound Semiconductors. Packaging, circuit design and system designs need to be disrupted to accelerate the journey to net zero carbon.
