Institutions are grappling with the challenge of managing AI tools that can auto-join meetings and process sensitive information—sometimes without users realizing it. The result? A growing governance gap that risks stifling academic discourse and compromising sensitive data. Higher ed must act now to align tech adoption with policies that prioritize transparency, privacy, and accessibility. Let’s leverage innovation responsibly. https://bit.ly/4g4ge62 #HERSnetwork #HigherEducation #HigherEducationLeadership #CollegesAndUniversities

#OptIn and #OptOut These two words are the new #nightmares for those who have care #privacy and #confidentiality in the #AgeOfAI. Do you agree? The story I want talk about today start from a #tumblr post (https://lnkd.in/dTF4WH6k) and a #Medium post (https://lnkd.in/dt23jDGv) where the title is self-explanatory: "MS Word is Using You to Train AI: How to turn off AI-scraping from your Word documents". 💡According to the two articles above, Microsoft may use our data for training the #AIModels if the option #ConnectedExperiences is enabled. That option can be enabled/disabled in the Trust Center under the voice privacy settings. #NoPanic ⚠️ BleepingComputer has written about and asked directly to Microsoft clarification (https://lnkd.in/dYYWiWRg): 🗣 "The Connected Experiences feature enables features like co-authoring, real-time grammar suggestions, and web-based resources," BleepingComputer was told. 🗣 "These features are on by default because they're features people naturally expect in a cloud-connected productivity tool. However, customers always have control and can adjust their Connected Experiences settings at any time." So, what Connected Experiences does? There is a dedicated page on #Microsoft's #Lean: https://lnkd.in/dMpnUCAj where the featured services are defined: "Connected experiences that download online content are experiences that allow you to search and download online content including templates, images, 3D models, videos, and reference materials to enhance your documents. For example, Office templates or PowerPoint QuickStarter." As far as I see there is nothing about training in the detailed tables. In the reality it isn't a new voice, highlights #BleepingComputer, 🗣"Microsoft added that the setting has been available since April 2019, with enterprise admins having the option to choose if connected experiences are available to users in their organizations using multiple policy settings designed to manage privacy controls for Microsoft 365 Apps and Office on Mac, iOS, and Android devices" but it is also true I could add that part related AI anytime... 🙄 💡 Of course, remember also that Microsoft, for corporate/enterprise-grade agreements, has a dedicated program and top-notch confidentiality level for data management. #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #Office #LLMs #UserExperience #Productivity #O365 Microsoft Research #IA #InsideTheNews

Every year at Microsoft Ignite, we share the latest innovations and updates across technologies - and there has been a lot to share this year!! One that stands out for me however is the announcement of Azure Confidential Clean Rooms. With key partners, EY and Sarus (YC W22), we aim to help financial services organizations and regulators navigate the complexities of private and personal data sharing, without compromising the integrity of the data, and adhering to all relevant privacy regulations. We are focusing our efforts on how this technology can play a pivotal role in helping better detect cases of human trafficking, however, we recognize that it can be used to help organizations for multiple other use cases, and cross industries, including health care and government & public sector. 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟰 of #30DaysOfFlCode : 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🚀 Today, I explored the fascinating world of privacy-preserving collaboration through the paper "𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘤𝘺 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦-𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺." It tackles the "𝗰𝗼𝗽𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺"—the challenge of sharing data while maintaining control and preventing misuse. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: • The paper highlights how traditional solutions like encryption, differential privacy (DP), and trusted execution environments (TEE) address fragments of this problem but fail to solve it holistically. • Introducing the 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸: a set of capabilities that ensure access management, usage monitoring, transformation (e.g., adding DP noise), evidentiary support, and recursive control mechanisms. • Applications include secure federated learning, healthcare data sharing, and cross-organizational intelligence collaboration. This research emphasizes that privacy and transparency aren't opposites—they can complement each other with the right frameworks and technologies. It was inspiring to see how these ideas are pushing the boundaries of secure collaboration. P.S. If you’re into privacy, AI, or federated learning, this paper is a must-read. It’s a game-changer for privacy-preserving systems. What are your thoughts on balancing data utility and privacy? Let’s discuss!
