#UnlearningSchoolNorms #BreakOldHabitsInSchools Last week, I shared my thoughts on the lack of career development pathways for educators. The private messages I received (and comments) were both insightful and, frankly, concerning. A common theme emerged: leadership roles in schools are often fleeting, unsupported, and unrecognized—and it’s costing us great talent. In my work with schools, I’ve noticed that leadership positions for educators are often based on voluntarism, lasting only as long as the person is willing to continue or a fixed term set by the school. Many educator leaders share similar frustrations: Little Preparation: Most receive no training or ongoing support, leaving them unprepared for the complexities of leadership. Challenging Dynamics: Difficult situations with colleagues, lack of collaboration, and toxic behaviors often discourage them from continuing. No Career Pathways: Leadership roles rarely lead to meaningful recognition or progression, leaving many asking, “Why bother?” Leadership development can’t exist in isolation. For it to matter, schools need systems in place that acknowledge and reward leaders for their efforts. Salary structures must reflect the added responsibilities. Career pathways should allow educators and professional employees to grow beyond their initial roles. Leadership opportunities should be tied to aspirations captured when employees first join an organization. Sigmund Freud once said, “Love and work are the cornerstones of our humanness.” Work has the potential to inspire, motivate, and fulfill. But for that to happen, schools need to invest in understanding their people—their goals, aspirations, and potential contributions beyond their current roles. #Leadershipmatters, but it thrives only when systems support it. #edcaht #internationaledcuation #EducationalLeadership #schoolleaders #CareerDevelopment #SchoolCulture #LeadershipMatters #teachers #educators #schoolopeartions Kam Chohan Kathleen Naglee Homa Sabet Tavangar Maddy Hewitt Pery Awad Dr. Ryan Persaud Sarah Kupke Gonzalo Blanc Melissa S. Witnessed a moment at the county fair that highlighted a critical leadership lesson. A grandmother was scolding a child for running off, spending 10 minutes delivering a toxic, unproductive reprimand. While her concern came from a place of fear for the child’s safety it could have been offered to the young crying child in a different tone to help him understand the severity and potential dangers of his actions. This underscores the importance of how we lead our teams. Solid leadership is characterized by the ability to guide rather than overcorrect. Effective leaders prioritize mentorship, offering constructive feedback, and fostering a supportive environment. They lead with empathy, patience, and a clear vision, empowering their teams to grow and succeed. Leadership tendencies should include active listening, clear communication, and setting a positive example. By equipping leaders with the right tools and encouraging these behaviors, we can create a thriving, positive workplace. #Leadership #HR #Empowerment #PositiveWorkplace

Why True Leadership Starts with Listening! Ever wonder why some leaders inspire unwavering loyalty while others struggle to connect? The secret lies in one overlooked skill... Listening. In my years as a police officer, particularly in offender management, I learned that listening—truly listening—was often the most powerful tool I had. Whether managing some of the most prolific offenders in North West London or leading teams in high-pressure environments, it became clear that people don’t just want to be heard... They need to be understood. Leadership isn’t about dictating from above. It’s about meeting people where they are, understanding their struggles, and guiding them toward their potential. At New Leaf Academy, we apply the same principles to our coaching. Every client’s journey is unique, and the first step is always to listen—to really understand where they’re coming from and where they want to go. Listening fosters trust, builds stronger relationships, and ultimately, drives better results. It’s the foundation of our 21/90 program, and it’s the key to transforming not just lives, but entire teams and businesses. So, ask yourself: When was the last time you really listened? It might just be the difference between good leadership and great leadership. Discover how we integrate this principle into our transformative programs at https://lnkd.in/dATTyyvw #Leadership #CommunicationSkills #ActiveListening #Transformation #NewLeafAcademy
