POV: You’re a Shift Lead & Barista at Blank Street Coffee in New York City. I’m on a mission to build the world’s longest resume. This is what I learned while working as a shift lead and barista for one of NYC’s trendiest coffee spots: 1️⃣ Consistency is key. Crafting the perfect cup of coffee isn’t just about following a recipe—it’s about precision and care. From the first shot of espresso in the morning to the last latte of the day, delivering a consistent experience is what keeps customers coming back. 2️⃣ Shift workers make up 80% of the world's workforce and they are often hourly, frontline, and essential workers who keep our communities running. My friends at Deputy were are so dedicated to spotlighting these everyday icons that they made it an official holiday — #ShiftWorkerSunday is coming up this weekend on, November 24th. 3️⃣ Leadership is in the small moments. As a shift lead, it’s your job to set the tone for the team. Whether it’s managing rush hour chaos or solving an unexpected problem, leadership often comes down to staying calm, offering support, and making sure everyone feels valued and supported. 4️⃣ Every connection counts. This is more than a place for a cup of coffee—it’s a hub for human connection. Every cup of coffee is a chance to brighten someone’s day. From casual chats to meaningful conversations, working as a barista opens the door to getting to know the professionals, creatives, and regulars who make NYC so vibrant. As Dylan said, “This is where I can really make the day great.” 💡 Who makes your everyday possible? #OneShiftAtATime #career #shiftworker #coffee

Tonight, I grilled hamburgers for my grandchildren. As I stood there flipping burgers, I realized the process is a lot like recruitment: Preparation Matters: Just like getting the grill to the right temperature, preparing thoroughly before engaging with candidates is crucial. Understand what your business needs and how the candidate fits that picture. Rushing it leads to undercooked burgers—or misaligned hires. The Right Ingredients: Not every hamburger is the same—just like candidates. You need the right mix of skills, culture fit, and potential. The wrong ingredient can throw off the whole experience. Timing is Everything: Flip too early or wait too long, and the burger either burns or stays raw. In recruitment, if you don't act quickly on the right candidate, you might lose them. But acting too fast without fully evaluating can lead to regret. Patience: Whether it's waiting for the perfect sear on a burger or finding that ideal hire, patience pays off. Good things take time—rushing the process rarely works out well. Grilling reminded me that B2B recruitment, like cooking, takes care, attention, and a little bit of intuition. And in both, when you get it right, the results are incredibly satisfying. #Recruitment #Hiring #Leadership #LessonsLearned

🎯 Nailing Your “Day in the Life” Visit at a Restaurant Interview 🎯 As a manager candidate in the restaurant industry, being asked to do a “day in the life” visit is a big opportunity. It’s your chance to show more than what’s on your resume and prove that you’re the right fit for the team. Here are a few tips to make sure you shine: 1️⃣ Be Curious, Ask Questions: Show your interest by asking about everything from daily challenges to brand standards. Understanding the restaurant’s culture and operations can set you apart. 2️⃣ Engage with the Team: Interact with team members at all levels. Building rapport and showing respect for every role will demonstrate your leadership qualities and team spirit. 3️⃣ Observe and Adapt: Pay close attention to the flow of service and the restaurant’s vibe. How do the team members communicate? What’s the customer experience like? Adapt to the environment to show that you’re quick on your feet. Help as needed! 4️⃣ Demonstrate Problem-Solving Skills: If you see something that could be improved, mention it tactfully. It’s not about criticism—it’s about showcasing your problem-solving mindset. 5️⃣ Standards: Don't be afraid to pick up trash on the floor if you see it. Refill paper towels while washing hands if empty. You might not know their standards but you understand the basics of any restaurant. 6️⃣ Bring the Positive Energy: Smile, stay enthusiastic, and remain engaged. Talk to team members and guests in order get to know them. 7️⃣ Follow Up: After the visit, send a thank-you note that includes specifics about what you observed and appreciated. This will reinforce your interest and attention to detail. Make your “day in the life” experience count by going beyond the basics and showing that you’re already thinking like a team member. Good luck! 🍀 #restaurants #restaurantjobs #careermatchmaker #restaurantrecruiterguy #superiortalentsource #recruitinghospitality #restaurantrecruiter #hospitalityrecruiter #recruiter #hospitalityopportunities #restaurantopportunities #hospitality #talent #opportunities #recruiting

"My Barista Just Offered Me Equity Instead of Coffee" True story: I walked into a cafe today and tried to order a latte. The barista looked up from his MacBook and said, "Sorry, we don't do coffee anymore. But would you like to join my pre-seed round? Our pitch deck is really heating up." I wish I was joking, but cafes have become the new WeWork - just with better background music and more caffeine jitters. Today's census: - 20 tables - 19 MacBooks - 18 "entrepreneurs" writing their groundbreaking ebooks - 1 actual coffee drinker (me) Look, I get it. Your apartment is boring and you need to show the world you're "hustling." But let's stop pretending that replying to emails while hogging a table for 6 hours after buying one $3 green tea makes you a business mogul. The worst part? These "cafe-preneurs" have the audacity to give you death stares if you dare to have an actual conversation in THEIR office. Sorry, I mean the PUBLIC CAFÉ where they've decided to set up their Fortune 500 headquarters. And can we please talk about the absurd setups? I saw someone bring: - A second monitor - A mechanical keyboard that sounds like morse code - An actual desk lamp Buddy, if you need all that, maybe - just maybe - work from home? Or better yet, an actual office? Just a wild thought. Don't even get me started on the people conducting full-on job interviews. Nothing says "we're a professional company" like hiring someone while the barista shouts "VENTI FRAPPUCCINO FOR KAREN" in the background. Here's a thought: If everyone's working from cafés... who's working from the actual offices? Are they just empty buildings with sad desk plants having their own meetings about the good old days when humans used to come in? The harsh truth? 90% of these "café workers" are either: - Writing their 7th unfinished screenplay - Designing a revolutionary app (it's just Uber for dogs, Kyle) - Building their "personal brand" (posting inspirational quotes on Instagram) LinkedIn Fam - what's the most ridiculous "cafe office" setup you've seen? P.S. To the guy who had a full green screen setup at the café today - I admire your delusion, but also... who hurt you? 😂 #CaféCulture #RemoteWork #ThisIsWhyICantGetACoffeeAnymore
