Reminder! | Tomorrow, March 18 - Greene County Candidate Forum Registration is not required! 📍 Lakeside Church - Greensboro, GA 30642 🕰️ 5:00 PM The CIC and The Landing's "Homeowners Together" organization have scheduled a Greene County Candidate Forum for Monday, March 18, at 5:00 pm at Lakeside Church. This forum will allow the County Board of Education, County Commission, and Sheriff candidates in contested races to speak to area residents. Due to time constraints and the number of candidates and offices involved in the contested races, candidates in uncontested races cannot speak. Each candidate in a contested race will have 10 minutes to speak. The first 5 minutes will be dedicated to communicating their message, and the last 5 minutes will be dedicated to questions. This event will not be a debate. This event is not limited to Reynolds Lake Oconee members. Feel free to share this event with friends who may not be Reynolds Lake Oconee members. We are excited to announce that WILC (Westchester Independent Living Center, Inc.) has been awarded another 3yr grant from the NY State Department of Education to continue our work with Acces-VR providing resource support to participants with barriers to employment and college. Barriers to employment can include access to transportation, housing, benefits information and financial aid tools for college. WILC will continue working with the White Plains and Rockland County offices but will be adding support to the Mid-Hudson offices serving Ulster, Orange, Duchess and Putnam counties.

The City of Chicago is launching an initiative to sell vacant lots for just $1 as part of a middle-class development program aimed at revitalizing our community. Wesleyan’s campus radio station, WESU, has launched Engage Radio, a new program to highlight the community engagement work of the university, its partners, and residents from across the greater Middletown community. “We thought Engage Radio would be a great way to highlight the work of partners that we’re connected to, [and] in a really tangible way, highlight the work of many of our student volunteers, faculty, and staff,” said Clifton Watson, director of the Jewett Center for Community Partnerships (JCCP) and co-host of the program. https://lnkd.in/eJK_4X-8

In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, today we are sharing more about our 2024 Case Study Awardee, Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA). MEDA supports Latinx residents and small business owners in the Bay Area, one of the fastest-gentrifying metro areas in the country. Their key anti-displacement strategies aim to safeguard the neighborhood’s rich Latino immigrant heritage and economic strength while addressing the ongoing challenges of small business stability within a gentrifying neighborhood. MEDA’s three commercial anti-displacement strategies focus on: -producing new community-owned commercial spaces -preserving existing commercial spaces, and; -creating land use and real estate tools that support small businesses and community-based organizations. Recent wins include the construction of six new affordable housing buildings, which provide 10 new community-owned affordable ground-floor commercial spaces. I just finished reading the City of Charlotte 2040 Comprehensive policy plan and I must say it is a pretty good and well informed city development framework. I am curious to see how well it will or is being executed and how true it remains to its core values and principle. https://lnkd.in/etsSgAC4
