Did you know that Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) account for 20% of the UK's transport emissions? 🚛 This is why we're the principal partner on GRIDSERVE 's revolutionary Electric Freightway Programme, working with businesses such as Samworth Brothers to help decarbonise the sector. Through the project, we're tackling common challenges like high costs and limited infrastructure by analysing real-world data to optimise electric HGV deployment. 2/3 of fleet vehicles run by companies are ready to go electric this year. In a time where it feels all doom and gloom for the EV industry in the news, this refreshing press release from GEOTAB outlines the UK's readiness to 'double down' on EV adoption. In a 7-year period this can: Save roughly £13,279 per vehicle Prevent the use of 2.2 billion gallons of fuel* Avoid approximately 19 million metric tons of CO2 emissions* *1.3million vehicles

Putting the Volvo FM Electric to the Test 🚒 The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) recently took the Volvo FM Electric on a 550km journey to test how low-emissions vehicles can fit into their future fleet. Towing a water tanker, the RFS team put the electric prime mover through its paces - averaging 88.7 km/h with an impressive energy consumption of 1.24 kWh/km. This trial is an important step toward understanding how battery electric trucks can help emergency services reduce emissions while maintaining operational performance. With just 120 minutes of charging time along the route, the RFS team noted that anyone familiar with Volvo trucks could easily transition to the electric version. As Cameron Bettany, VP of Governmental Sales, puts it: “Fire and emergency services are at the frontline of climate change, and reducing emissions is critical - not just for the planet, but for the health and safety of first responders.” Volvo is proud to be at the forefront of sustainable solutions for emergency services! Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) only account for 6% of the mileage on UK roads - yet they contribute 19% of transport emissions. To meet the UK’s climate change ambitions of a net zero economy by 2050, we must decarbonise the transportation sector. Adopting zero-emission HGVs is central to this. We are deploying our data and digital expertise in the GRIDSERVE Electric Freightway programme to uncover and address the barriers to HGV electrification. Our analysis will provide the evidence and business case to enable commercial fleets to transition to zero carbon. When it comes to airport #GSE #electrification, the relatively fixed driving range means long endurance isn't a top priority. However, the unique operational demands of airport GSE require exceptionally high standards for battery safety, charging reliability, cycle life, and performance in extreme temperatures. LFP batteries, with their proven safety and reliability from years of use in electric buses, stand out as the ideal choice for powering GSE. Our lithium battery systems for airport GSE feature advanced electronic control and BDU management, offering compatibility with both high-voltage and low-voltage charging. This enables "series charging and parallel discharging" for enhanced efficiency. We have successfully supplied these systems for airport tow tractors and belt loaders, delivering reliable performance specifically designed to meet the demands of ground support equipment. It is estimated that 34,000 diesel buses will need to be converted or replaced by 2035. NewPower UK can cater to this predicted demand with a programme that will retrofit diesel bus fleets at their mid-life point. We can take buses that are five to nine years old and decarbonise them in just three weeks, giving them an extra 10 years of life. Conversion can take as little as three weeks and have space for teams to work on six buses at any one time, offering the potential to decarbonise 500 buses a year. #NewPower #Wrightbus #DrivingAGreenerFuture #Repower #Decarbonisation #PublicTransport #Bicester #RepoweringBuses

Heavy-duty trucks were once considered difficult to electrify. Not anymore. Advancements in battery tech and a high-power charging protocol known as the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) is fuelling the growth of electric heavy-duty trucks in Europe and elsewhere. The MCS is designed for an output of 1,250V and 3,000A. Which corresponds to a charging capacity of up to 3.75MW. By comparison, today’s charging stations with the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard, used by cars and commercial vehicles, offer a maximum charging capacity of 400kW at 500A. For truck drivers, the EU mandates a 45-min break every 4.5 hours, while the US requires a 30-min break after 8 hours. To match the operational efficiency of diesel trucks, electric heavy-duty long-haul trucks must be able to adequately charge during these breaks, which MCS offers. MCS is still being developed, but its potential is undeniable. It will be an ideal choice for electric long-haul trucking and other time-sensitive high-power applications. #ElectricVehicles #MegawattChargingSystem #MCS #ElectricHeavyDutyTrucks #SustainableMobility #ClimateAction
