The Netherlands’ House of Representatives has taken a decisive step in the regulation of online gambling by voting in favor of banning online gambling advertisements and high-risk games, such as slots. The motions, proposed by Socialist Party MP Michiel van Nispen, received just enough support for a majority, signaling a significant shift in the country’s approach to online gambling. During a session on April 16, a total of 114 motions were deliberated, with 14 stemming from previous debates on gambling. Of these, ten were adopted, including measures for mandatory financial risk checks and identification requirements in the gambling sector, reported Dutch gambling media outlet Casino Nieuws. This decision marks a departure from previous attempts to implement such bans. A similar motion for a total ban on gambling advertising failed to garner enough support in February. However, this time around, with a slim majority of 77 votes, the motion proposed by Van Nispen has been successfully passed. Combating the illegal gambling sector Yesterday, news outlet Knack published the article ‘Children of five recognise gambling logos’. As the professional association of Belgian private gambling operators, BAGO is disappointed that the article does not clearly distinguish between the legal and illegal gambling sectors when it comes to the use of gambling advertising during different sporting events over the summer. Concretely, BAGO wants to clarify some statements made in the article by highlighting the following: 🔒 Compliance is crucial for private licensed gaming operators. The legal operators strictly adhere to current legislation, ensuring that all their activities fully comply with the law. 💻 The presence of online advertising is therefore to be attributed to unlicensed illegal operators active in Belgium. 👮♂️ BAGO calls in consequence for reinforced control of the violation of the advertising ban by illegal operators without authorisation in Belgium by among others strengthening the Belgian Gaming Commission. The Belgian gambling market is however increasingly flooded by illegal unlicensed providers. Recent figures, published in L'Echo, show that as much as 60% of the Belgian gaming market consists of unlicensed providers. These parties advertise on social media without restrictions, attracting increasing numbers of players, especially young people. Legal gaming operators recognise their social responsibility and are therefore always in line with the current legislation in force. BAGO members are committed to a duty of care, proactively monitoring for problematic gaming behaviors and intervening promptly using cutting-edge technology #ResponsibleGaming #DutyOfCare #StopIllegalGambling

🎰The latest amendments to the Gambling Act substantially restrict the possibilities for advertising gambling across all media, as such ads will be permitted only in explicit cases provided for in the law. The changes are based on socially important objectives, but will certainly have a direct or indirect impact on many businesses. Measures have also been adopted to restrict gambling in smaller localities and to limit stays and activity on online betting sites by consumers. Gambling organizers will be required to make higher contributions to the state budget depending on their license, and to adopt a policy of immediate payment of winnings - in cash or by bank transfer. https://lnkd.in/dBACJ8-T

🇺🇦 TOP-10 Ukraine – November 2024 Ukrainian authorities are actively striving to strengthen the regulation of the casino market. As part of these efforts, the Verkhovna Rada decided to dissolve KRAIL and enhance control over the gambling sector. This initiative includes the reorganization of the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries, as well as the introduction of automation and online monitoring, eliminating the human factor in the licensing process. New rules have also been introduced for online casinos: – A mechanism has been created to block access to illegal gambling websites and applications; – A ban on gambling advertising has been implemented, except for its placement during nighttime on television and radio, in media targeting audiences aged 21 and older, and on platforms and search engines with a similar age restriction; – It is prohibited to offer or reimburse costs for participation in gambling, send messages or make calls to an undefined group of people, and provide free bonuses instead of requiring bets; – The participation of military personnel, volunteers, public figures, and the use of war-related themes in advertisements is restricted; – Licenses are prohibited for owners or officials of gambling companies with tax debts or overdue licensing payments. It is important to note that the Ukrainian market has its own specifics: search queries are conducted in three languages – Ukrainian, Russian, and English. Despite tighter control, Ukraine’s iGaming market continues to grow. New brands are emerging in the country, such as Gorilla Casino, Vega’s Casino, Winboss, Party Casino, and PRE Match. Additionally, Slotoking has been rebranded as Betking and received a betting license.
