Loaves & Fishes tackles two problems with one solution. The local nonprofit operates as a food rescue, collecting excess food from grocery stores and other sites to deliver to over 100 agencies that help those in need. This process aims to eliminate food waste while addressing food insecurity in Greenville County. “At the end of the day, it’s moving surplus food from where it’s not needed to where it is needed,” said Tessa May, executive director of Loaves & Fishes. In 2023, Loaves & Fishes rescued approximately 2.7 million pounds of food. May said the amount is equivalent to more than $9 million worth of food redistributed into the community.

🐄Dairy farms are traditionally passed down from generation to generation, meaning farm families have been a part of the local community for many years. 🐄While our farm is currently being operated by the 1st and 2nd generations of the family farm, we plan on supporting our community, land, and animals so that they can thrive and be the future for many generations to come. 💗Farmers help support their local communities by volunteering at local organizations/schools, educating the public on where their food comes from, and spending money at local businesses which can have a multiplier effect of 2.5x the original dollar spent! 🥛Not to mention, local farms mean local dairy for you and your family to enjoy, and what could be better than that?!? #dairyfarm #dairyfarmer #farmcommunity #community #local #dairygood #undeniablydairy #family #farmfamily #realdairy

Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Many of us have experienced hunger or know someone who has. When we listen to people facing hunger and use the study's findings, America can choose to end hunger. Whether it’s advocating for a strong farm bill or investing in our communities, it’s up to all of us to unite in our efforts to create a future where everyone has access to the nutritious food and resources we need to thrive. Even when we disagree, we can all agree on ending hunger. Hunger is a challenge we can overcome together. Join us on our #nutritionmission here at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County by volunteering or donating so we can continue to provide nutritious food to our community. We are currently serving over 436,000 people per month on average, including 138,000 children and 86,000 seniors #wefeedOC #wefarmOC

It's time to empower farmers to combat hunger and eliminate the reliance on their food donations! By fostering community engagement and embracing innovative solutions, we can make a significant impact. Exciting news from Northeastern Pennsylvania! 📢📢📢 We've introduced 4 new markets to support local farmers, including farm-to-nonprofit, farm-to-community stands in food apartheid areas, farm-to-school produce stands 📚📚📚, and farm-to-retail in low-income communities. 🛒🛒🛒 This initiative doesn't involve warehousing or complex logistics, leading to reduced food loss on farms and increased profits for farmers. In a recent success story, 300lbs of freshly harvested broccoli 🥦🥦🥦 was prevented from going to waste, breaking the cycle of farmers feeling obligated to donate their produce. Let's continue to build sustainable solutions and create a brighter future for both farmers and communities. #CommunityBuilding #FoodSecurity #LocalFarming #Sustainability #Innovation #FoodDignity #SystemsChange #PayFarmers
