𝗔 𝗪𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝗨𝗽 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 At the start of 2024, the percentage of employees who strongly agree that their company cares about their well-being reached a historic low of 21%. Despite numerous initiatives, trust in companies' commitment to employee care remains low. It’s clear: companies must act to close this gap. Real changes are needed to enhance employee well-being. 𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘄: 1. Improve communication: Programs must be communicated clearly and regularly to build trust. 2. Prioritize health: Physical and mental health should be at the heart of corporate culture. 3. Address emotions within the team: Encouraging open conversations about emotional challenges creates a supportive environment. 4. Strengthen connection through check-ins: Regular check-ins foster closer bonds and trust within the team. 5. Be open to conversations: Listening to employees' concerns builds trust and shows genuine care. It’s time to view employee well-being as a true priority, not just a short-term measure. There's intent, and then there's impact. In HR, we often have great intentions, but don't understand the impact that some of our work can have on people. In my line of work (surveys and the analytics behind people and organizations), you can have a tremendous impact on people without intent. The survey itself can be an inadvertent form of abuse - gaslighting a workforce into thinking the company cares. Wellbeing is one way that survey teams have great intentions, but accidentally gaslight the workforce when leaders don't understand what it takes to actually implement the things their asking about. Companies like the idea of wellbeing - but it requires a fundamentally different way of working. Executives will state with great confidence that "Our organization cares about the workforce and their wellbeing!" but that care is limited to how much productivity the worker can provide. If you ask about work-life balance, but your talent goals are to churn-and-burn-out your workforce and force people back into the office, you can do harm. If you ask about psychological safety, but then set teams up to compete instead of work together (something that reduces it), you can do harm. If you ask about DEI, but you don't do anything when you find out that several groups are having vastly different experiences, you can do harm. If you ask about mental health, but call those people crazy when they say the workplace is impacting their wellbeing, you can do harm. There's a disconnect between what companies ask and what many decision makers do. And I think that needs to change. We should care about individual outcomes for our people practices - they create collective experiences - positive or negative. That's why I believe we should put employee surveys into the hands of people. To learn about and reduce harm on your own team, take the toxic work survey and get a free team report. https://lnkd.in/gSDXjYxq #endworkplaceabuse #hrtech #psychometrics #employeesurveys #harmreduction
