Earlier this month the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and Hopsteiner UK took brewers on a hop walk at Redsells farm in Faversham, Kent. The day brings brewers, growers and merchants together with experts from across the industry to look at the crop and hear about future plans. This year’s theme was sustainability. The growers are constantly working and learning from each other as to how to make their businesses more sustainable for the long term. We have lost almost 50% of our hop growing acreage in 5 years and to remain viable, hop growers are demonstrating wonderful flair and resilience in this field. Our Hopsteiner hops are helping. Designed to be drought and disease resistant, they require less intervention, have a lower carbon footprint, and therefore the yield is higher per hectare.
