Earlier this month the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and Hopsteiner UK took brewers on a hop walk at Redsells farm in Faversham, Kent. The day brings brewers, growers and merchants together with experts from across the industry to look at the crop and hear about future plans. This year’s theme was sustainability. The growers are constantly working and learning from each other as to how to make their businesses more sustainable for the long term. We have lost almost 50% of our hop growing acreage in 5 years and to remain viable, hop growers are demonstrating wonderful flair and resilience in this field. Our Hopsteiner hops are helping. Designed to be drought and disease resistant, they require less intervention, have a lower carbon footprint, and therefore the yield is higher per hectare. Working alongside our growers and brewers is what Hopsteiner prides itself on, being proactive to change, managing risks and being world class at innovation. #farming #hops #brewers #beer #sustainability #worldclass #harvest2024 #farminglife #hopsteiner Hopsteiner Deutschland Hopsteiner

Do you know why harvesting hops at the right time is so essential? Harvesting at the correct time is important to ensure that they are of the highest quality. Early harvest can reduce yield and even impact the yield of the following year. Alternatively, late harvest can result in enhanced oxidisation, reducing the storage life and impact the unique flavour of the hops. One factor that influences the correct time for harvesting hops is the moisture content. Read this blog to find out more and see how Precisa’s moisture analyzer range can help improve your hop harvest and you beer! https://ow.ly/Ntrw50Sulss #Hops #BeerMaking #Brewing #HopsHarvest #MoistureAnalysis

We precision harvest our Pinot Noir for cleaner fruit and a faster harvest - all at a fraction of the cost of hand-picking. 🍇 In Episode 10 of Fridays on the Farm, Daniel Pasculli, Assistant Vineyard Manager at Farmland LP, demonstrates how our Pellenc harvester helps us bring the cleanest fruit possible. This machine sorts leaves and stems as it harvests, ensuring a top-quality product for our winery customers. It doesn’t stop at harvest, either. It also helps with pruning, hedging, and spraying all year long. Watch how it all comes together. 🍷 #FridaysOnTheFarm #PinotNoir #SustainableFarming

As autumn nears, harvest planning is key. Hand harvesting ensures precision, with skilled pickers selecting only the best grapes - ideal for premium wines like English Sparkling Wine. However, labour shortages and advances in technology are making mechanical harvesting more appealing. Modern machine harvesters are now capable of handling grapes delicately, working quickly, even at night, to deliver quality fruit efficiently. Choosing between hand and machine harvesting is no longer straightforward - it depends on your vineyard's needs and winemaking goals. Whichever method you choose, proper canopy management is essential. 👉 Read the full article in September's issue of Vineyard Magazine. https://lnkd.in/eEYrHHp9

A frequent topic of discussion I encounter revolves around the concept of being a craft 🥦 grower. It's a complex topic, particularly given the very few true craft growers in Canada. I hold maximum respect for those dedicated craft warriors who truly embody the craft ethos. On the other hand, there exists another group of growers, whom I refer to as "Craft-ish" growers. These individuals partially adopt elements of the full craft experience but ultimately fall short of meeting the criteria for certified craft status. It's crucial to understand that being a craft grower encompasses more than just yielding dense buds and tight nugs. This distinction often causes confusion among 🥦 consumers. . . . . . #KR #craftgrowers #kronicrelief #legacytolegal
