It takes A LOT of work trying to improve our health and care systems 😅 Which is why this whole month we've been highlighting the incredible work by members of our Improvement Directors Network (IDN) and Improvers Learning Network (ILN). They've coached others, improved front line services and pushed themselves to do better! Each one has been nominated by their generous colleagues, who had such kind things to say about them. So to conclude December Recognition Month, today we're shining a light on all of them! #IDN #ILN #DecemberRecognitionMonth #Improvement #NHS Amar Shah Emma Challans-Rasool Elaine King Lynsey Ogilvie Victoria Treadway NHS Providers NHS England NHS Improvement

Is your PCN ready for what lies ahead? With changes to the additional roles reimbursement scheme (ARRS), for example by adding newly qualified GPs, its vital primary care networks (PCNs) have clear agreement if, and how, they may wish to deploy additional resources. As opportunities arise PCNs need a clear vision on how they wish to continue to work together at network level and beyond, to guide their decision making. Revisiting the direction with members, ensuring the Network agreement is up to date and that appropriate governance is in place will support PCNs to make the decisions they will need to imminently and, in the year, ahead. Contact enquiries@pcc.cic.org.uk if you would benefit from a facilitated session to clarify your vision, access hands on support to develop future business plans, or to update your Network agreement. Kingsgate has been helping the NHS to change and improve for around two decades now. During that time, we’ve seen a wide range of challenges across finances, ways of working and organisational culture. And while the circumstances always vary, we pride ourselves on being able to identify and fix the problem. Ultimately, it’s about enabling NHS Trusts and local systems to increase their productivity by being more efficient. When done well, this will improve healthcare and patient outcomes too – the definition of higher-value services. #NHS #productivity

The Kingsgate team have been commissioned to undertake a major piece of work in the Midlands. The local integrated care system is under close scrutiny by NHS England as one of the most financially challenged in the country. Our involvement is because of our experience and expertise in this field. We’re fully hands-on, analysing different budgets and ways of working, to identify opportunities to reduce costs and ease the pressure. We’re focusing on productivity across the system, including in medical activity, workforce planning – and continuing healthcare, where the area is among the worst-performing in England. #NHS #productivity #costimprovement

How to heal the NHS? The front-line staff, who actually deliver the service, (Doctors, nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists, et cetera) are generally excellent, the problems lie elsewhere. The issue is top down, the organisation and governance structures are a recipe for inefficiency and weakness. If a Trust has an effective Board of Directors, why does it need Governors? Why are Trusts and their Directors not in scope of the Companies Act? This would ensure proper accountability for both parties. Why do many GP Practices have antiquated opening times? Ours is closed at weekends, on Thursday afternoons and all Public Holidays, only open from 9 o'clock to 6 o'clock and closed at lunchtime. Then people wonder why A&E is over-stretched. Why does the NHS, with one of the most diverse workforces in the World, need diversity training and Diversity Managers? A total waste of money that adds nothing to health care in the UK. Fundamental reform is needed, but it needs to be top down and there should be an immediate end to vanity projects such as Leadership Academies.

Continually assessing the training you provide and the impact that it has is so important. Below is feedback from an NHS trust that recently took the #autismrealityexperience. Good or bad, feedback is the only way to understand how to develope or improve.
