South African Women’s Day on the 9th of August was established in remembrance of the historic 1956 women’s march in Pretoria 68 years ago. The historic march saw more than 20,000 women from all walks of life march to the Union Buildings to protest against apartheid, including the pass laws, in spite of the real threat of arrest and violence. Throughout the month of August the country acknowledges and celebrates women and their achievements as active agents of transformation and change. This year the country also celebrates 30 years of the Women’s Charter, which was established to drive gender equality. As the month coincides with South Africa’s commemoration of 30 Years of Freedom and Democracy, the theme this year is: “Celebrating 30 years of Democracy towards Women’s Development”. During Women’s month we celebrate women as active agents of change and social transformation and the South African government will be using this month to advance the ‘Women’s Charter for Accelerated Development’ that was formulated in 2021. It aims to accelerate economic reforms to unlock women’s economic progress. Statistics released last year revealed that in South Africa, women hold only 23% of tech employment positions which translates to 56 000 out of 236 000 ICT roles (https://bit.ly/4dCXcBZ), which is alarmingly low. Hosi Technologies champions women in the ICT sector and we consider it a strategic imperative to facilitate the growth and development not only of our female employees, but in the broader community as well. During the month of August we will be profiling women in Hosi and the invaluable contributions they have made to the business. Hosi Technologies wishes all South Africans a Happy Women’s Day 2024! #hositechnologies #womeninit #womenintechnology #womensday2024 #southafrica #africa #womenempowerment #genderequality

Day 5 of 31 Statistic of the day: 12% Closing the gender gap in STEM is crucial for achieving the Africa Union’s Agenda 2063, fostering inclusivity, robustness, and sustainability in innovations. However, according to UNECA, only 12% of women are currently operating in the ICT sector in Africa. Yet, the future of our continent relies on leveraging the full potential of our human capital, with women representing half of it. Let's empower more women to thrive in STEM, shaping a more equitable and prosperous future for Africa. #STEM #WomeninTech #Innovation #Africa2030 #genderequity #AfricaTransformation #EmpowerWomen #internationalwomensday2024 #InvestInWomenAccelerateProgress #PicCourtesyOfSalonTrue

International Women's Day is a time to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It is also a day to reflect on the challenges that women still face around the world. In southwestern Nigeria, cultural norms and gender stereotypes continue to limit the opportunities of women and girls. Despite these obstacles, women have continued to make strides towards gender equality. Investing in women is key to breaking down these barriers and empowering them. By providing access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, women can become active participants in their communities. Investment in women has far-reaching benefits beyond just the individual woman. When women are empowered, they are more likely to invest in their families and communities, leading to a positive ripple effect. As we celebrate International Women's Day 2024, let us recognize the cultural norms and barriers that limit the potential of women and girls in southwestern Nigeria. Let us also commit to investing in women and providing them with the tools and resources they need to thrive. Only then can we work towards a more just and equitable society where all women, regardless of their cultural background, can reach their full potential. Adelayo #iwd2024 #socialwork #socialworkmonth

The event was attended by high-level UN officials, government representatives, experts, civil society organizations, and NGOs. The NGO CSW Geneva UNECE Task Force is leading the organization of the Beijing +30 Review, spearheading the civil society consultation process. What is UNECE Beijing +30 Regional Consultation? Celebrating 30 Years of Democracy: A Reflection on Women in South Africa's Property Sector As we celebrate 30 years of democracy in South Africa, it is both an opportunity for reflection and a call to action. Women business owners, professionals, and property practitioners have forged a path in a historically male-dominated industry, showcasing resilience, innovation, and leadership. Yet, the question remains: are our aspirations for gender equality and economic empowerment still just a pipe dream? The strides women have made in the property sector over the past three decades are remarkable. From breaking into leadership roles to establishing successful businesses, women have proven their capabilities and driven significant growth. These achievements deserve recognition and celebration. However, they also highlight the persistent systemic barriers that women continue to face. Economic justice and gender equality are not mere aspirations; they are imperatives for a truly democratic and inclusive society. The Women Economic Assembly Property Sector Research Project exposes the stark realities women encounter in the sector. Limited access to funding, mentorship, and networks, wage disparities, and underrepresentation in decision-making positions are challenges that demand immediate and sustained action. This research project is not just an academic exercise; it is a blueprint for transformative change. By identifying the barriers and offering actionable solutions, it serves as a catalyst for creating an environment where women's contributions are not only recognized but celebrated and elevated. As we look back on 30 years of democracy, let us not only honour the progress we have made but also #commit to the work that lies ahead. The dream of economic empowerment and gender equality is within our grasp, but it requires our collective effort, determination, and unwavering resolve. Now is the time to turn aspirations into reality. Let us break down the barriers that hinder women's progress in the property sector and build a future where every woman has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and succeed. Together, we can ensure that gender equality and economic empowerment are not just ideals but the foundation of our democracy. #WomenEconomicEmpowerment #EconomicJustice #GenderEquality #30YearsOfDemocracy #WECONA #WomenInBusiness #WomenInProperty #SouthAfrica #TransformativeChange #WomenLeadership #BreakingBarriers #Inclusion #Equity The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa Department of Public Works and Infrastructure @Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities @Department Human Settlements @Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation @Department of Small Business Development End GBVF Collective National Empowerment Fund The Banking Association South Africa Council for the Built Environment
