At the start of this year, Matt Cundrick and I sat down and considered the strengths and weaknesses across the #foodtogo sector. We spoke about a range of different operational and proposition aspects, and the list of strengths came out a lot longer than the weaknesses. But there were weaknesses. Two in particular that we identified stood out to us: 1. Creating and executing a shared and consistent vision across a business as it grows, ensuring that everything back and front of house works as well with 50 (or 500) locations as with one or two. Margin leakage - planned vs. actual - came up a few times in this, as too did a broader focus on ways of working and getting the right prioritisation and levels of autonomy in place to give a proposition the best chance of succes. 2. Ensuring that as a business you continue to look forward with your eyes open as to what's coming next across what remains a fast moving industry (we all know it's helpful to see this through external as well as internal eyes). And to ensure you know what you're doing next ahead of time, and not just after your key rivals have implemented it. That got us thinking. How much of this could we cover in one day? As it turns out, quite a lot, and we were delighted that our first workshop, which took place last month in London, was so well received. Making your business run like clockwork now, and giving the right inspiration for you to develop and grow in the future, lay at the heart of what we set out to achieve. So we were delighted that the feedback (see below) reflected that.
