Dead and Buried was the first production to receive funding under the Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland Sustainability Innovation Fund. We used this funding to hire a hybrid-battery generator from Sunbelt Rentals UK & Ireland to power our catering truck and fridges; to hire hybrid-battery tower lights from AllGen; to replace 6,861 litres of diesel with HVO biofuel from Euro Oil; and to enable our Costume Department to receive expert advice and training from Circular Costume Ireland CLG. These measures, and many others, led to a reduction of 19% in the carbon footprint of the production - 116 tonnes down to 94 tonnes. Half of this 94 Tonnes is directly attributable to trucks, vans and cars that were fuelled with diesel or petrol. The production went on to achieve 3 star certification as a sustainable production from BAFTA/WeAreALBERT, which is becoming a habit now for Cormac Fox and Vico Films who first achieved a 3 star certification for The Young Offenders Series 2&3 in 2019. Dead and Buried had a lot of firsts and set a lot of benchmarks, many of which have now been replicated on other productions. Let's hope there will be a second season so we can take it up another gear.
