A fair private rental sector is essential for ensuring social stability and justice. Without it, vulnerable individuals and families will face uncertain and unsafe living conditions. By establishing a well-regulated private rental sector, this would create security for renters. A stable market encourages investment in housing and fosters economic growth. The lasting outcome would be an attractive private rental market and enhanced community cohesion. It is not just about providing shelter. It is about upholding fundamental rights and fostering a society where everyone can thrive. “I want to say that Sheila and Stacey [advisors] really made a difference and gave me the strength to pursue this all the way.” ~ Valerie, Threshold client and donor ]Together we are working for an Ireland where everyone has access to affordable, secure and good quality housing in sustainable communities. Come and find out about where I live, an amazing example of how community-owned housing looks and works, at our open day on 25th May. Chapeltown Cohousing is an amazing blueprint of affordable, community-led housing that has the potential to solve so many problems of our housing crisis. It provides those who live here with: 💥 A community to combat loneliness. 💥 Multiple diverse voices, reducing social division. 💥 Affordable rent with no private profit. 💥 Healthy and sustainable houses. 💥 A super strong sense of place. As a model it has the potential to help with: 🌼 Brownfield land development. 🌼 Increasing the quality of housing. 🌼 Keeping the private rental market in check. 🌼 Connecting people to the land they live on. 🌼 Promoting stewardship (of our neighbourhood, city, planet). So come down if you are interested and feel free to share :) There will be lunch !

Our Corporate Marketing & Communications, Research and Project Leaders recently came together to partner with Property Industry Foundation to help restore one of the Salvation Army's transitional housing centres. These centres provide young people experiencing homelessness short term housing solutions as they seek support to create long-term living arrangements. The team used their 'Colliers Gives' leave day to support PIF on this project with their volunteering efforts helping to provide a safer, more welcoming environment for young people in need. Doing what's right by our communities is part of our unique Colliers values and culture. #ColliersAustralia #ColliersGives #PropertyIndustryFoundation

Today, on National Housing Day, we reflect on the critical importance of housing as a foundation for a safe, healthy, and vibrant life. Here at Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region, we witness daily the transformative power of affordable homeownership—not just for individuals, but for entire communities. Access to safe, decent, and affordable housing is more than a basic need; it’s a launchpad for opportunities. It empowers families, stabilizes neighborhoods, and builds brighter futures. Yet, the housing crisis in the City of Peterborough and Peterborough County remains a pressing challenge. Rising costs and limited availability mean too many people are struggling to find a place to call home. We believe in the power of partnership to tackle this issue head-on. Together with our donors, volunteers, and community partners, we’re making strides to create affordable housing solutions. Every nail hammered, every home built, and every family supported represents hope, resilience, and a step toward housing equity. That's why we are working with many partners including CORMOR, a new local 3D construction printing company right here in Peterborough. This National Housing Day, I encourage everyone to reflect on the role we can play in addressing the housing crisis. Whether through advocacy, donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness, every effort makes a difference. How will you contribute to creating a future where housing is a reality for everyone? #NationalHousingDay #AffordableHousing #AffordableHomeownership #HabitatForHumanity #CommunityImpact #TogetherWeBuild Habitat for Humanity Canada Left to Right: Gary Williams (Kitchens Depot), Me, MPP Dave Smith, MPP Rob Flack (when he was Associate Minister of Housing, Dwight Corcoran & Neil Morton.

I often get asked to explain in greater detail what is it that I actually do—even by members of my own family—and I totally get the confusion especially when you toss the term “brownfield” around😵💫!!! The simple answer is that it’s my job to make people aware of brownfields while also advertising our free services by way of graphics, webinars, how-to videos, and so on. Here’s a little series of graphics I made with the help of the NJIT TAB team to try to help break it down.
🔎 What’s a Brownfield? Curious about what these sites are, where they are found, and how they can transform communities? 👉 Swipe through our carousel to learn: ✅ What a brownfield is. ✅ Where you can find them (hint: everywhere!). ✅ What they can become – parks, housing, playgrounds, and more! ✅ Who benefits from redevelopment (everyone, including animals!). 💡 Did you know? There are over 450,000 brownfields in the United States. At NJIT TAB, we’re here to empower communities to clean up and repurpose these spaces – at NO COST to local governments and non-profits. Let’s turn challenges into opportunities for your community. 🌱 📍 Learn more: https://njit.edu/tab 🔗 Follow us for more brownfield redevelopment insights! #CommunityRevitalization #EnvironmentalRedevelopment #NJITTAB #LearnMore #CommunityHealth #Brownfields

Following our presentation to HRM's Community Planning and Economic Development Standing Committee (CPED) on behalf of the New Roots Community Land Trust (CLT) North End African Nova Scotian (ANS) Community, myself & Houssam Elokda had the privilege of being interviewed by Vanessa Wright with Global News to discuss the origins and urgency of our work. In my interview I discussed the origins of this work and emphasized its urgency. It’s crucial to act now to prevent further displacement of our community due to gentrification causing rising rental rates and extreme land dispossession in community. It's crucial to leverage this land to begin to rebuild the ANS communities that were lost in Cogswell and surrounding areas through Urban Renewal to help resident return to their previous status of working class, business and homeowners. titles that were lost by thousands of anus individuals through this process. The Trust intends to use funds generated from this initial development for the Community Land Trust (CLT) to acquire land in the North End and surrounding areas where historic ANS communities once lived and thrived; to restore and strengthen our community to its previous status. We hope this work, when competed, can serve as a blueprint for other communities to duplicate elsewhere to begin to develop their own sense of ownership and equity. Stay tuned for more updates on our progress and how you can support this vital initiative. #CommunityDevelopment #AffordableHousing #UrbanPlanning #SocialJustice #HousingEquity #CommunityEngagement #Nonprofit #HousingCrisis #CityPlanning #SustainableDevelopment #CivicLeadership #CommunityEmpowerment #LocalGovernment #PublicPolicy #RealEstateDevelopment

As my second year as Executive Director comes to a close, I’ve taken time to reflect on this organization's incredible journey during the eight years I’ve been a part of it. This year, we reached a significant milestone: taking the first steps toward establishing our static site shelter. This project will be a transformative venture for us in the years ahead, bringing stability and hope to many. However, this progress has been accompanied by a sobering realization. Rising rent and the overall cost of living drive more families back into instability—families we previously worked to help stabilize. It’s heartbreaking to see them priced out of affordable housing despite their best efforts to build secure lives. The road ahead will undoubtedly be more challenging than ever before. Yet, I remain hopeful. I believe in the power of community and our ability to come together to support one another. By fostering innovation and collaboration, we can develop creative solutions to what feels like an impossible problem. Let’s continue to work towards a future where every family has access to safe, affordable housing. Together, we can make a difference. #AffordableHousing #CommunitySupport #NonprofitLeadership #HopeForTheFuture
