Building a better future, one sustainable step at a time! 🌱 One of the key objectives on the fit-out of Saffron House is to minimise its impact on the environment. CIBSE will be piloting the UK’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard on their new HQ and using their expertise to share best practice in decarbonising a commercial property. Here’s how Hoymor is making a difference on this project: ♻️ Recycling and reusing materials & specifying sustainable products: We're committed to reusing and responsibly sourcing materials to minimise waste and environmental impact. 🚚 All-Electric Waste Disposal: We've partnered with Lawmens to handle all our waste removal using their All-Electric Vehicle service, ensuring a low-carbon footprint for every load transported off-site. 📊 Carbon Monitoring System: Our ‘Carbon Monitoring’ signing-in system tracks workforce travel methods and distances to site. We’re proud to contribute to a more sustainable built environment while delivering a high-performance space for CIBSE. #SustainableConstruction #NetZero #GreenBuilding #CarbonReduction #ElectricVehicles #FitOut #WasteManagement #CIBSE #BuildingForTheFuture

🏗 GECA standard in the spotlight 🚛 We're excited to share that our CEO, Joshua Begbie, and Head of Communications, Kendall Benton-Collins, were recently featured in an interview with Inside Waste au magazine's Managing Editor, Mike Wheeler, about the development of GECA's game-changing Construction & Demolition Waste lifecycle ecolabel standard to reduce the impact of this fast-growing waste stream. As we celebrate Planet Ark's #NationalRecyclingWeek, we're keen to highlight that, according to Australia's National Waste Report 2022, C&D waste has more than doubled over the past 15 years. By 2025, it is expected that 2.2 billion tonnes of construction waste will be generated worldwide! 📈 A crucial part of certification under GECA's standard is measuring, documenting, and reporting to demonstrate the diversion of at least 90% of C&D waste from landfill ♻ "I think there can be a tendency for some people to feel, ‘Ah, you know, we're doing alright. We’re good. We'll just stay there’. At GECA, we want to encourage people to keep minimising their impact and grow their circular outcomes," says Josh. ✨ Learn more about our C&D standard here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ghkzmXUb And read our interview with Inside Waste here 👉 https://lnkd.in/g4mkNFHB Meet Grasshopper Environmental, the first company to certify under our C&D standard 👉 https://lnkd.in/gRJg9uzN #WeLoveWednesday #GECAcertified #LoveOurLicensees #ChooseGECA #LifecycleEcolabel #ConstructionandDemolition #CircularEconomy #WasteHierarchy #Recycling #Construction #WasteManagement

We are thrilled to have reached a significant milestone in the Maryvale Energy-From-Waste project, which sees more than a dozen Melbourne councils choosing to divert their waste from landfill to this new state-of-the-art facility. The Maryvale plant will help us make better use of non-recyclable resources, and will help Australia accelerate towards net zero by managing Victoria’s waste immediately instead of leaving it for future generations. The site will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to an equivalent of removing 50,000 cars from the road! It will also help us maximise the recovery of by-products created during the energy-generating process, like recycling, and support the creation of new jobs in the sector. 🌿 Exploring Strategic Changes in Residential Recycling in Grande Prairie Welcome back to our in-depth discussion on a potential shift in our local recycling landscape: transitioning from a privately managed system to an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model. 🔄 What Would This Mean for Grande Prairie? This transition raises important questions about the role of our municipality in managing waste and recycling. EPR places the responsibility for the entire lifecycle of products, particularly their end-of-life, squarely on producers. This policy framework aims to enhance sustainability and reduce waste. 🔍 Understanding EPR: •Producer Accountability: How EPR mandates producers to take charge of their products from manufacturing to disposal. •Municipal Role: The evolving role of local government in this new framework. 📚 Learn More About EPR's Impact: We invite you to delve deeper into how EPR could reshape environmental policy and economic development in Grande Prairie here: https://lnkd.in/gFQPDKxH Join us in shaping a sustainable future for our community and share your thoughts on this transformative approach. #EPRAlberta #SustainableGP

FEELING FRUSTRATED! The same week as Local Government Procurement (and a major LGA) inform me that FTD Circular can't respond to their Circular Economy RFI and can't apply to become an Approved Contractor to support waste-to-landfill diversion until end 2025 and 2027 respectively (when their panels renew), the NSW Government says '... a decade of inaction by previous governments has left Greater Sydney on the brink of a waste crisis. Without action, landfill space is predicted to run out by 2030'. Not only this but we've been told by NSW public servants that our proven success in digitalised construction and demolition circularity implementation cannot be engaged by NSW Government itself because it is presently 'without comparison for competitive tender' (ie. it's innovative). If the current government is going to criticise previous governments for inaction then it will need to start seriously engaging at the coalface of implementation by removing barriers to procurement for proven circularity enablers like ourselves. https://lnkd.in/ghzKsPGT https://lnkd.in/gck6pPEH Tony Chappel Penny Sharpe Kerry Robinson OAM #nswgovernment #nsw #circulareconomy #localgovernmentprocurement NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Social Traders Blacktown City Council City of Sydney Planet Ark Green Building Council of Australia GECA Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water James Griffin MP Sky News The Sydney Morning Herald Waste Management Review

Recycling Victoria is pleased to release the inaugural Victorian Recycling Infrastructure Plan (VRIP). The VRIP provides investors in the Victorian #circulareconomy with a road map to guide decision-making on waste, recycling, and resource recovery infrastructure over the next 30 years. It is an essential resource, providing insight into potential investment opportunities, including: · infrastructure needs analysis that considers capacity and capability · place-based assessments for each material stream · residual waste and waste to energy · regional opportunities · land use planning. Recycling Victoria has also produced the Waste, Recycling and Resource Recovery Investment Prospectus that highlights investment opportunities and supports. It has been developed in partnership with government agencies who facilitate Victorian business growth. Syntegra boss Alan Wing-King is backing the implementation of a new framework aimed at tackling climate change by restructuring the waste industry. Circular economy specialist Reconomy believes its 10-point regulatory framework will boost the UK economy and help meet net-zero targets. Steve Reed, the new Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, identified the “roadmap to move Britain to a zero-waste economy” as one of the Labour government’s five key priorities. The framework aims to establish a consistent, business-friendly regulatory market. Reconomy claims the circular economy could add £82 billion to the UK economy and create up to 284,000 jobs in London by 2030. A cleaner future for the construction industry is something we’re striving for at John Holland - and that’s why we’re constantly innovating on our projects. One example is the recent trial of a 100kva GEH2 hydrogen-powered generator at Sydney Water's Upper South Creek Advanced Water Recycling Centre in Western Sydney. The trial saw a 100% reduction in diesel usage on site, with zero carbon emissions when the generator was running, saving 12.2 tonnes of CO2 over 28 days. It also directly supports Sydney Water’s ambition to achieve net zero carbon emissions in its operations by 2030, and net zero carbon emissions in its supply chain by 2040. Our commitment to sustainability and best practice environmental outcomes is helping support a cleaner and more sustainable industry. And it's not an optional extra. #JohnHollandTransformingLives #ItsAJohnHollandThing #JohnHollandSustainabilityInConstruction #JohnHollandZeroEmissions
